We’re currently facing an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking situation—one that didn’t have to happen. And that’s what makes it so devastating.
Some time ago, we took in a sweet kitty who later tested positive for FeLV. It wasn’t ideal, but we rallied, supported him, and he’s now living out his days safe, loved, and comfortable. But now, the situation has escalated. There are 12 more cats in the same home—including three separate litters, totaling seven kittens. We’re unclear on the family tree, but inbreeding is clearly a factor. We’ve already received two diagnoses of stomatitis, an excruciating autoimmune disease that’s causing these cats to waste away, unable to eat.
We are angry. We are tired. And we are heartbroken.
This could have been prevented. Spay and neuter is not just a suggestion—it’s a responsibility. These animals didn’t choose this. They didn’t ask to be born into suffering. They didn’t ask for the pain of stomatitis or the confusion of overbreeding. And now, we’re the ones left to make impossible decisions about their future, their comfort, and in some cases, their survival.
To those who continue to defend bringing kittens into the world because “they’re cute”—please stop. That reasoning causes real harm. What’s cute today can suffer tomorrow. And right now, some of these kittens face a future that’s bleak at best.
We know this post may be hard to read. It’s hard to write. But we’re not just venting—we’re pleading. We’re tired of being the ones who have to clean up after neglect. We’re tired of making the “quality of life” calls for animals that others claimed to love, but didn’t protect.
This isn’t love. Love is responsible. Love prevents suffering.
We desperately need better animal welfare laws. Because they can’t speak up for themselves. But we can—and we will. Even when it hurts. Especially when it hurts.
Please—spay and neuter. Be part of the solution.
