Happy National Mutt Day! Today, we celebrate the one-of-a-kind mixed-breed pups that bring so much joy and unconditional love into our lives. Since mutts are often the most common dogs waiting in shelters, it is also the perfect time to support rescue and adoption efforts National Mutt Day.

More Tank.........

Meet Tank. Tank came to HSWL as a neglect case. He is a 6-month old, male, weighing in at 49 lbs. We figure he will be over 90 lbs when full grown. They have him as a Lab mix. We really do not know what breeds are in him. He is neutered and fully vaccinated. Its interesting, coming from being neglected, he is super sweet and very trusting of humans

Tank's adoption fee is $150.00.

meet him at our adoption center in Deridder. We are open everyday to the public 1 to 4 p.m.

HSWL has been cleaning up the shelter last few months and adding small changes such as a memory wall to honor Mz Rita and John Mylnarski as well as Robert Scalfi who donated the land to HSWL to build our shelter. Without these people Humane Society of West Louisiana would not even be in existence today.

This is why we keep going and trying to keep our doors open. Things have been bad several months now. No adoptions hardly. We have gotten several of our animals back that we adopted out previously. That is one constant we kept alive from Mz Rita. We take our HSWL animal back that we adopt out

We are hoping this is just a temporary slump. We have had to close our doors on intake of animals. People still try and harass us to take the animal. Doesnt help that Beauregard Animal Control refers HSWL when they can't take a dog.

We do have several patrons who give religiously every month such as the Tomas's, Gloria Morton, Renita Weeks.

In the Alexandria area, we have Robin DesOrmeaux Mouliere who works tirelessly looking for monetary donations for HSWL along with her mother Sally DesOrmeaux who has donated to us several times.

We thank all the people who donate to us when at Petsmart as well. Be it monetary or donating items to our thrift store.

Poor Matthew has been working for free and not taking his paycheck so we can at least pay our veterinarian bill this month.

Meet very sweet Rosie. If you are looking for a companion to keep you company, Rosie would be great for that. She is a 3-year old, 30 pound, female. We do not know exactly what her mix is, we think she might have some Beagle in her. She is spayed, fully vaccinated, and heartworm negative. She is very social and loves children.

NO OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS

Rosie's adoption fee is $50.00 since she was already spayed when she came to us. We just heartworm tested her and vaccinated her.
