✨ Learning new skills takes time. So next time your dog just doesn’t seem to “get it”, ask yourself how you can be a better teacher as opposed to blaming your dog. This will not only help you get closer to your trainer goals, but it’s also the best option for your relationship with your dog as well!

Set up the environment so your dog can succeed. Use management to help your dog choose the right things and prevent unwanted behaviors from occurring. Use positive methods to help them feel good about what they are doing. Have rewards handy to let your dog know they are doing a good job.

What new skills are you working on lately with your dog?

Stay tuned for more “New-vember” content where I’ll be sharing tips and tricks on what to consider when training new behaviors.

This is due to the potential adverse effects which include but are not limited to: inhibition of learning, increased fear-related and aggressive behaviors, and injury to animals and people interacting with animals.

Thank you, Petco, for taking a huge step in the direction of evidence-based, kinder methods of training.
