FreeLance Dog Training I offer convenient at-home, reality-based dog training that caters to your issues & goals Hello!

My name is Lance Kalahar and I've been lucky enough to turn my love dogs for dogs into a career! I offer convenient at-home, reality-based training that caters to you and your dog's needs and goals. Since classes are private and held at your home or a nearby park, we can focus on practical problems without sharing a trainer’s time with other students. Therefore, I can focus on training owners thor

oughly so your dog will continue to listen to you years after our training sessions because YOU have been extensively trained as well. I’ve been training dogs for 10 years and continually strive to learn more about all types of training methods so I can be a better trainer and in turn, help more dogs. I started my career as a Military Working Dog Handler in the Navy, then attended Starmark Academy for Professional Dog Trainers, and since then I have jumped between different training disciplines including pet training, explosive detection for professional sporting events, search and rescue training, rehabilitating dogs rescued from dog fighting rings, and service dog training. I believe that every dog (like humans) learns differently, so I started my own business that caters to that mentality rather than strict training protocols that other companies adhere to. I use balanced training techniques, meaning I teach new tasks in a fun manner through positive reinforcement, then, once the dog completely understands the command, I will teach appropriate consequences when your dog decides not to listen. This way, you still maintain a great relationship with your dog but he/she will listen to you the first time you ask, regardless of the scenario and without bribes likes toys and treats! Thank you for stopping by my page and please message me if you have further questions!

Shout out to miss Wanda for stepping into the role as helper dog! My partner adopted her a little over a year ago and she was a tough doggie to start off. She had impulse control issues (would make bad decisions like chasing a squirrel or mouthing way too hard during play) and a stimulus control issue (she'd get over-stimulated by seeing other dogs or even making eye contact with people). She had no prior training and would drag whoever was brave enough to walk her down the street. Honestly, she was kinda annoying.

After lots of training and learning how to meet her needs, Wanda now regularly attends class as a helper dog, as in she's used as a distraction for over-stimulated, reactive, or fearful dogs. It took a lot to get there, because before she would've been a huge disruption in classes, now she's helping dogs overcome their issues! Proud of her and I'm lucky to have another loving, silly pitbull.

Retrieve is the most common Service Dog task for mobility support and unless your dog naturally retrieves items, its a pretty difficult task to teach. When dogs aren't taught retrieval through this step by step process, they'll often perform sloppy retrievals (chewing the item, dropping it too soon, requiring many re-commands) throughout their career so its better to put in the time initially training this task thoroughly. Please comment if you have any questions!

This video gives comprehensive instruction on how to teach each step of Retrieval. First, I start with Get It, then Hold, then Bring, then Pick Up. Teaching ...

Kenai is 4 months into his Psychiatric Service Dog Program! His veteran has been doing a wonderful job committing to classes and following through with their homework. I've been working with them through the non-profit .co.foundation who is paying for Kenai's Raise and Train program. When the veteran/handler raises and trains their service dog in a guided program like mine, a stronger bond is formed and the veteran goes through a therapeutic process - as in they may go through difficulties in the program, but they emerge stronger and more confident with a four legged partner by their side. If you're a veteran, or know one, that is interested in service dogs, please apply at https://bettercofoundation.org/

Remote collars aren't just "shock collars" - they're an incredibly versatile training tool with tons of features that can be utilized give let your dog roam responsibly off-leash. is my preferred brand to use because of its reliability of the static electric shock (not voltage, its the same shock as touching a door k**b) that can be set to feel like a tingle, an itch, or a high level correction for circumstances like chasing prey.

Since it is a versatile tool that can be used as punishment, its important to work with a professional when training your dog on a remote collar because there is a lot of room for operator error. If you're interested in training your dog to be reliable off-leash and are in the Denver Metro/Front Range area, DM me for a free consultation!
