Our everyday life is about dogs. While our friends are on vacation or having family meetings, parties, we drive 1000s of miles to mates for mating, participate in dog shows, wait for the delivery of puppies or take care of the litter and dogs. We haven't had a real vacation in years! Because it's really hard to entrust our dogs to someone else. No one knows them better than us. All our plans are made around the date of the cubs, the date of mating and the date of the vet. Most of our friends are also breeders, because only they can understand such a life and support us. We don't sleep for two or three days (sometimes more) before the birth begins, because we support and take care of the future mother. While each puppy is coming, we pray that he is healthy and strong. If something is wrong with the puppy, we fight for his life for hours, days or weeks. Sometimes it rocks and dies in our hands. This is the hardest thing that can happen to a breeder. This breaks our hearts into a million pieces and these memories never go away. We sleep next to the garbage with mom and puppies for a month or more, to monitor the litter every minute ... in fact we don't sleep much that month. Our veterinarians know us by name, and we also have personal phone numbers. Not every person gets our puppy. Puppies are our children and we want only the best homes for them. Every puppy that leaves us carries with it a piece of our heart. Our puppy owners are our family. Money is not earned by sitting and selling as most people think. Every brand we earn we earn with lots of tears, stress, blood and sacrifice. We don't work 8 or 10 hours, and then we go home to rest on the sofa and watch TV. Dogs need care 24 hours a day. Money is being spent on dogs and our kennel again. It's a vicious circle. Our house is not perfectly clean, ever. And our clothes are full of dog hair. But this is our life and we would not trade it for anything. 💜💜💜

Things you should ✨ALWAYS ✨have on hand if you own a dog 🐕🦮🐕‍🦺🐩
(During the Warmer Temperature🌡 months especially)

If your dog is overheating more then liking it has a build up of phlegm in their throat.

1️⃣ Sq**rt a few shots of lemon🍋 juice (I also have used Young Living's Lemon Essential oil) down the dogs throat.
This helps to dissolve the phlegm and open up their airway.
(If the dog is in full shock you can rub the lemon juice on their gums as well to bring the dogs sugar up.)

2️⃣ Pedialyte (Plain) (for dehydration), given rectally! The Colder the better! It will bring down the dogs core temperature while hydrating it.
If you don't have that, cold water or ice cubes work.

3️⃣ Rubbing alcohol applied to the dogs belly, arm pits, pads🐾 and balls, You can put it all over the dogs body and cover it with a damp towel.

🤔Why you ask?🤔

Because rubbing alcohol pulls heat out of the muscle, if you cover them with a damp towel as well, this helps it work faster and keeps it from evaporating. ((Typically you'd want the 91% but you can use the 70% as well))
As humans perspire moisture on our skin evaporates and keep us cool. 🚫DOGS DO NOT SWEAT🚫 so this technique does this for them.

🗣📣If your dog is ever overheating at a show and I'm there, COME GET ME!!! I keep these items on hand along with some other fantastic modalities!

⭐⭐Do not EVER submerge the dog in cold water, as extreme temperature changes WILL send them into shock - Gradually cooling body temperature is absolutely necessary ⭐⭐

Make sure to keep lots of water around to keep the dogs hydrated while outside, and ✨ALWAYS✨ practice Common Sense.

🚨🚨🚨
Healthy puppies come from healthy moms. Understanding the dog gestation period is critical to ensuring her embryos develop properly and her puppies are born healthy and strong. Here's a quick look at what happens during each stage of gestation as embryos develop into puppies.

How Long Are Dogs Pregnant?

Gestation for dogs lasts 62 to 65 days and we count from the last breeding. When a female no longer accepts a male it's a sign she is ovulating and should give birth 62 days later. Small litters have much more room and can go a day or two longer gestation. Meanwhile, large litters may go a day or two earlier.

When Will I Know My Dog is Pregnant?

Dog embryos are tiny and have to be viewed under a microscope until about 30 days gestation. At around 35 days they are growing fast and mom starts to belly down. At this point you will be able to tell she is pregnant. An ultrasound can be done as early as 28 days to identify the number of embryos in the uterus. Blood testing for pregnancy is not very reliable and usually not done.

Taking Care of Pregnant Dogs

If you know or suspect your dog is pregnant make sure you give her extra care. The most critical time for toxins or drug-related defects are days 21 to 32 of gestation. Cleft pallet and bone defects happen during the end of this period (days 25 to 32). Nothing should be given to mom during that time that does not help the pregnancy. This is when puppies' organs are being formed and damage is easily caused by giving the wrong thing.

Days 21 to 32 are also the critical time to be giving prenatal vitamins such as Breeders Edge Oxy Mate since organ, spine and brain development happens during this time. Prenatal vitamins were good for your mom when she carried you and they are good for your dog moms as well for the same reasons. Vitamins during pregnancy are necessary so babies are born as healthy as possible. We want puppies born healthy and fighting to live. We don't want to fight to keep them alive.

Providing prenatal vitamins in addition to a regular healthy diet gives mom all the help she needs to grow healthy embryos. From days 21 to 32 of the pregnancy there is no need for extra calories and we don't want mom fat! An overweight mom can lead to a difficult birth and C-sections. Remember, if you have to look under a microscope to see them, how much can they possibly eat?

At about day 45, it is necessary to increase calories since the rapid growth of the babies will cause an increase in appetite. At day 45, the cartilage bone formation starts to calcify and can be seen on an x-ray. When it comes to day 55 we often start giving mom puppy food since there are more calories per bite and she is running out of room in her tummy. It's important to be sure mom stays on food until term and birthing starts.

The next step is whelping. It's an exciting moment when those puppies start to arrive. We have lots of resources available on whelping, so make sure to do your research ahead of time so you can be prepared and have a successful and positive whelping experience.
