This was our busiest weekend I can recall. We did two rescues, one to Tulsa, OK and the other to San Antonio, TX. Both trips went very well. The weather was good for flying but quite windy and Pilot Kevin won a blue ribbon for handling wind shear and crosswind landings like a pro! I’ll start with OK and then add the pix from San Antonio on another post.

We’ve had a big week with a Thursday and Saturday Texas rescue for a total of 31 dogs. Thursday’s was from San Antonio and Saturday was from Denton for Flying Shepherd Ranch. My fave was the little black and tan chi mix, Paco. Just adorable. He was already adopted and will have a wonderful life now. The big (rotund) Pittie was also sweet as can be. She rolled right over for tummy rubs!

Our thoughts exactly.

⁣Andrew Wyeth⁣Master Bedroom⁣1965⁣⁣ “In Master Bedroom, Wyeth presents the family dog, Rattler, asleep, curled up and snuggled into the pillows of a four poster bed. Wyeth's granddaughter, Victoria, said in an interview that the artist had come home tired one evening, wanting to take a nap, only to find Rattler had got there first. She went on to quote Wyeth, You know, dogs are the damnedest thing. They just take over the house. While the title suggests we are in the bedroom of the home's owner, it is also a sly nod to the real master of the house - the dog. ⁣⁣Wyeth perfectly captures the mundane nature of the scene. The simple white bedspread, seemingly worn in a few spots, covers the bed and pillows. The room is unadorned; no pictures hang on the walls, but a small bowl sits on the window sill. The walls, painted rather gesturally, suggest old, discolored plaster. Through the window, we see a side of the house and a few branches of a tree. The light - a low, afternoon light - shines through window onto the end of the bed, not disturbing the sleeping dog. ⁣⁣Evidently, Wyeth's wife did not think much of the picture and suggested he put it on the giveaway pile. Betsy would be surprised to learn that Master Bedroom became one of Wyeth's most popular paintings.”⁣⁣ 🎨

Had a wonderful rescue from Tulsa today with copilot Braeden Giltinan. Picked up 14 beautiful souls big and small, old and young. Our special floor dog was a great big Wolfhound mix named Sawyer. He was dumped by his family because he got old. I was so happy to hear that he was already adopted! Blue, the absolutely sweet and adorable Pittie was another star.

Airplane partner and fellow rescuer, Kevin Shuler arranged a South Texas dog rescue out of San Antonio Sunday. The Denver end was arranged by Melissa Mc Calister of Red Fern Animal Rescue. We had a few bigs and many littles plus two very chill Tabby cats for a total of 16 critters. It was a very successful adventure and the weather cooperated nicely.
