It is that time of year again, and our officers are already receiving calls about pets locked in hot cars. Most owners would never intentionally harm their pets, but leaving an animal in a parked car—even briefly—can quickly become deadly. Under Chapter 6-12 of the City of Denton Code of Ordinances, doing so can lead to citations, criminal prosecution, and forced entry into your vehicle.
☀️ Animals overheat much faster than humans because panting is ineffective in hot, stagnant air.
🏠 Always leave pets at home where it is cool, comfortable, and safe.
🚗 Use pet-friendly businesses or curbside pickup if they must come along.
🚨 If you see a distressed animal locked in a hot car, call 911 immediately.
Let's work together to beat the heat and keep Denton's pets safe, cool, and healthy all summer long!
