It is that time of year again, and our officers are already receiving calls about pets locked in hot cars. Most owners would never intentionally harm their pets, but leaving an animal in a parked car—even briefly—can quickly become deadly. Under Chapter 6-12 of the City of Denton Code of Ordinances, doing so can lead to citations, criminal prosecution, and forced entry into your vehicle.

☀️ Animals overheat much faster than humans because panting is ineffective in hot, stagnant air.

🏠 Always leave pets at home where it is cool, comfortable, and safe.

🚗 Use pet-friendly businesses or curbside pickup if they must come along.

🚨 If you see a distressed animal locked in a hot car, call 911 immediately.

Let's work together to beat the heat and keep Denton's pets safe, cool, and healthy all summer long!

Legend status🤠🐂 Come meet seven-million-dollar bull rider J.B. Mauney (AKA Bevo) at the shelter this weekend! 🔥

⏰We open Friday and Saturday at 10:00 AM, and the last visitation is at 4:30 PM. We are closed on Sunday. Don't miss out!

Video Description:

The video features two shelter dogs on a green artificial turf lawn. First, a tan and white pit bull mix sits comfortably, looking up with curiosity. The camera then cuts to a fluffy brown and black senior dog who barks playfully. Finally, the tan and white dog is shown lying down, wearing a small plastic cowboy hat with a red paisley bandana print while chewing a dog treat.

🐾Petey | 50lbs | 2yrs Old | Neutered Male | Dog Friendly

Who Wore It Better?"🎩✨ Our Petey—currently looking for a forever home—or the original Petey from The Little Rascals? Don't know what The Little Rascals were? Ask your parents, or maybe even your grandparents! 😬

The OG might be a Hollywood icon, but we’re definitely biased toward our Petey. He doesn’t need a makeup artist, and that tiny tongue blep in his close-up is pure perfection. Petey is a 2 -year-old American Staffordshire mix, perfectly sized at 50lbs, who loves people and gets along well with other dogs.

🗳Vote: Original or New? (But honestly… just come meet him!)

✨🧡 Hubert | 2 Years Old | Neutered Male | Cat-Friendly | Shy Guy

Hubert may seem timid in the loud, busy shelter, but he’s truly a sweetheart just trying to protect his peace. 🤫🧡 His previous family says he is affectionate and loving once he warms up, and he gets along great with other cats. In a calm, patient home, this gentle 2-year-old orange boy will settle in nicely. If you have a soft spot for this shy guy, Hubert might be your perfect match!

🐝🍯 As sweet as her name, Honey is a beautiful, young Husky mix who has been waiting for her forever home since March 25th. She is a gentle, shy soul who finds the big world a little scary right now. She feels most confident where she can quietly explore, sniff, and observe at her own comfortable pace, especially outside.

Honey needs a patient, understanding home that will let her make her move at her own speed. She’s already showing us what’s possible: in her foster home, she gradually began choosing to rest right near her foster mom while she worked. 🥹

She may not run up for immediate cuddles, but for the right person, watching this beautiful girl learn to trust and come out of her shell will be the most rewarding journey. Could you be Honey’s haven? 💛

It’s been two weeks since our last post, but Babsie has been waiting since January 2nd with no inquiries. She’s sweet, kid-friendly, dog-friendly, potty-trained, and so ready for someone to finally choose her. Could that be you? 💛

Babsie is a "live for today" kind of girl. She recently had a low-grade tumor removed and is doing great! While she has about 4–5 years of love left to give, her new family just needs to keep an eye out for any recurring lumps. Babies isn’t looking for pity - she’s looking for her forever family to make her golden years unforgettable. 📨📲 Babsie is currently in foster, so contact us to schedule a meet-and-greet!

Thank you to for this amazing video!

Video Description: An edited video showcases Babsie, a sweet senior black-and-white pit bull mix, through a sequence of heartwarming photos set to music. The video begins with Babsie sitting contentedly outdoors as her foster mom gently pets her, followed by a cozy indoor shot of Babsie resting her head next to a plush white toy. Next, she is seen strapped securely into the front passenger seat of a car, looking out the window, before transitioning to a shot of her sharing the couch with two other dogs. The video concludes with a close-up of Babsie's joyful, open-mouthed smile, leading into a final black screen with white text that encourages viewers to "Adopt Babsie" at the City of Denton Animal Shelter.
