When I first brought home my Great Dane, I thought I was ready. I did the research, binge-watched all the videos, even had friends warn me: “Dude, they’re basically horses. Good luck.”
They weren’t lying… but nobody told me about the good stuff.
The first week was wild. My couch? Gone. My bed? Now a timeshare. The backseat of my car? Yeah, not happening. But here’s the twist: for a dog that could literally knock me flat with one nudge, he moves through life with this crazy gentleness. Like, giant body… feather energy.
One night after a brutal day, I was sitting on the floor just wiped out. He walked over, sat down next to me, and put his giant paw on my hand. No noise, no drama just like, “Hey, I got you.” And instantly, everything felt lighter.
People ask all the time, “Why a Great Dane?” Honestly, I don’t think I chose him. He kind of chose me. And every day since, I’m grateful he did.
He taught me that love doesn’t always show up the way you expect. Sometimes it’s a 150-pound “lapdog” who shadows you everywhere and refuses to let you feel alone. 🐾❤️
