Your horse doesn’t see this jump the way you do.
What looks like a simple, colorful obstacle to us may appear completely different to a horse.
Horses have dichromatic vision, meaning they primarily distinguish blue and yellow. Colors such as red and green may appear as shades of gray, brown, or muted yellow.
Because of this, the colors, contrast, lighting, and shadows of a jump can influence how your horse perceives it, affecting confidence, approach, and performance.
The next time your horse hesitates at a fence, remember that they may be seeing something very different than you are.
