Just thought I’d share a few facts about the Keeshonden breed!
-Distinct characteristics of Keeshonden include a lion-like ruff, spectacles, small and dark triangular ears, definite contrast, and a thick double coat.
-they are also known as a smiling Dutchman, and Dutch barge dogs
-Keeshonden tend to be very playful, with quick reflexes and strong jumping ability. They are thoughtful, eager to please and very quick learners, which means they are also quick to learn things their humans did not intend to teach them.
-they are easily taught to be agility and obedience dogs (Gemma’s mother was a show quality agility dog) they can even be trained to be guide dogs
- during 911 one was brought in to comfort relief workers
-they are great with children and prefer to be with their people as much as possible
-they match their owners energy levels. If you like to hike and do outdoors things they will love it too. If you live in an apartment and can’t get out much, they will love that life just as much
-their lovingly called “Velcro dogs” meaning they want to be with you! Ours love car rides, long walks, and naps in front of a fan😂
- they can be a bit ” loud “, some of them like to bark. Grizzly and Gemma tend to only bark when someone is coming to the door. Grizzly is vocal (like a husky).
-ours are extremely food motivated, I joke Grizzly would do back flips for some duck jerky!
I would recommend this breed to anyone I meet, they are just so special. But if you don’t want dog hair in your house, then I would say they aren’t for you😂. If you’re on the fence come meet them and see what you think for yourself!! 🥰❤️❤️❤️
