Our very own “Fabio” (Gibby) is back home from his stay at Kaylie Eaves Horsemanship, and a side trip to Woodland Run for his long awaited gelding surgery. He has settled back in nicely and is a much nicer, calmer, boy after living with Kaylie’s herd all these months. Happy to have him back!
Quarter Horse News spoke with Sarah Reuss, VMD, DACVIM, to get more information on what EPM is, and how to detect and treat it.

Putting out some feelers - our mare Pebbles needs a job. I need to downsize the herd. I would love to see her go to a therapeutic riding place, or a family that wants to walk around the pasture.
Pebbles is 18, has done it all in her day. She is quite and an easy keeper. She does have some maintenance, in the form of shoes with pads. Dx mildly navicular, but stays pretty sound with this shoe package. She has never ever loved to lope, since we bought her. She is better with consistent work, but I don’t have the time anymore. She will jog a hole in the ground and is a showmanship queen. She won some big money classes when my girls were showing her. But her favorite thing to do is give lead line lessons. She seems to really like kids.
One thing she hates with a passion is bugs! She does not enjoy being out in the heat of the summer when the bugs are bad. Not even with a fly sheet. She much prefers her stall with a fan on those days.
If you know of anyone who would like to try her out for their therapy or lead line program, please send them my way. She’s a special girl so I won’t let her go just anywhere.
We are INSANELY proud of this young lady! Cayla and KM Best Man, reserve champions of the inaugural 10-18 walk/trot pleasure class at the AAYHS! 40 horses, 4 splits and a final, they rocked it!

Happy Happy birthday to our old man, Therapy. Teddies turns 25 today! He has been part of our lives for 15 years now, and we hope he will be around another 15! He still doesn’t act a day over three. 🥳🤩
Visited Gibby today. He’s been living at Kaylie Eaves Horsemanship LLC for a few months, just learning how to be a horse. It’s definitely helped his brain! And holy heck, that mane, that forelock!

Gibby got his world rocked today! Took him to Kaylie Eaves Horsemanship LLC so he can re-learn some manners before he goes to get gelded sometime this winter. He loaded up on her stock trailer like a champ. Now he can play with the boys all day every day.

✨Horse Therapy✨
I don’t remember whose barn had it, but I remember someone having a sign in their barn that said, “Leave your problems and drama at the door.” I loved that sign. This sign wasn’t just for the peace of the people at the barn but also for the horses.
Have you heard of the saying, “My horse is my therapy”? Have you also heard of emotional dumping?
Horses ARE great for therapy, and it is good to vent/ feel safe to express your life problems. However, bringing your bad feelings and attitude to your horse is unfair to them and doesn’t make for a good work/riding/ handling session or relationship.
Someone told me they had this conversation with their therapist about their horse being their therapy and, without them knowing anything about horses, asked, “But how does your horse feel after emotionally dumping your problems on them?”.
I love that a therapist who knows nothing about horses understands the emotional and mental effects emotional dumping can have on others. Horses included. They mirror you; if you’re upset and bring that energy to your horse, they don’t know that this energy comes from Karen at work, your marital problems, or your financial problems. All they know is their herd mate (you) is acting strange, and there must be some predator around.
Check in with your mental and emotional headspace before handling your horse. It could significantly affect how your time with your horse goes.

🤩 Another 200 bales in the barn today! It was a hot one, but once again our crew knocked it out of the park. We are a well-oiled machine! Sold 100 bales to neighbor up the road and made a new friend in the process. 1300 total bales from 1st cutting. I didn’t think we would fit it all in the barn, but we did…now a little break please, before 2nd cutting?

Was thinking today that two years ago we were baling this week. This year thanks to this little beast we are all done. Love this little baler and tractor and especially the lady running it.
