On July 4th, our clinic will be CLOSED so our staff can celebrate freedom, grilled meats, and hopefully no surprise porcupine encounters. 😬🌭🦔

BUT, if your pet gets into some holiday mischief (ate the sparkler, freaked at the fireworks, or tried to fly like an eagle 🦅)… our emergency hours are 8am–9pm 🐶🐱🚑

🌞 HOT PAVEMENT HURTS PAWS! 🐾

Summer heat is here — and while you may be wearing shoes, your dog’s paws aren’t! Asphalt can reach dangerous temperatures quickly, even if the air feels mild.

🔥 Did you know? On an 85°F (29°C) day, pavement can heat up to over 130°F (54°C)! That’s hot enough to burn your pet’s paws in seconds.

Tips to protect your pup:
✅ Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
✅ Stick to grassy or shaded areas
✅ Do the 7-second test: Place the back of your hand on the pavement. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them!
✅ Use dog booties or paw wax for added protection

It was just a normal day on the ranch for Riggin when suddenly she started favoring her right rear leg. On February 3, she came into the clinic because she wouldn’t put any weight on it. An X-ray revealed a fracture. Given the location of the fracture, amputation was chosen.

Fast forward to today, May 27 — Riggin is back to her playful, happy self, enjoying ranch life just like before! We’re so proud of her resilience and spirit.

Huge shout out to Dr. King for rockin’ this surgery and Riggin’s outcome!!
