Bonnie means pretty or beautiful… and honestly she knows it. With her gorgeous gray fur and big pretty eyes, she has everyone convinced they’re about to experience the honor of petting her.

Spoiler alert: you are not. 🤣

Bonnie operates like a luxury museum exhibit — look all you want, but absolutely no touching. She’ll rub against your legs, stare lovingly into your soul, and flop over dramatically like she wants attention… then the SECOND you reach toward her she disappears like she owes you money.

She is 90% fluff, 10% betrayal.

At this point we’ve accepted that Bonnie’s main hobby is emotionally manipulating humans for her own entertainment. Tiny diva. Tiny menace. Still beautiful though. 🩶🐾

Some days on the homestead just hit heavier than others. This spring has been a rough one with one of my absolute favorite things… incubating and hatching babies. Usually it brings so much excitement, tiny peeps, and happy chaos. This year? A whole lot of heartbreak and frustration. 😕

So many eggs started developing and then just stopped. My Muscovy hatch was a bust, the East Indie duck eggs didn’t make it, along with many Russian Orloffs and turkeys. I was SO excited to add some new little faces to the flock this year, and honestly… this one stings.

Nature has a funny way of humbling you, even when you’re doing everything “right.” Homesteading isn’t all cute baby fluff and picture-perfect moments. Sometimes it’s checking eggs with crossed fingers, getting attached too soon, and trying not to cry over tiny shells in your kitchen.

But if there’s one thing farm life teaches, it’s resilience. We dust ourselves off, clean out the incubator, probably mutter a few choice words at it 😂, and try again. Here’s hoping the next hatch brings better luck, loud peeps, and a lot less emotional damage. 🐣

Every beautiful morning around here starts with milking Monte — our lovable, slightly dramatic goat momma. 💛
I won’t lie… in the beginning, milking was a learning curve for both of us. There were side-eyes, stubborn moments, and a few “who’s really in charge here?” conversations. But now? We’ve got it down to a science. Miss Monte comes running to the milking stand like it’s the hottest spot on the farm.
Of course, the sweet treats waiting for her have absolutely nothing to do with that enthusiasm. 🤣
Her fresh milk is already a favorite for drinking, and even the kitties and dogs think they deserve a share. But this is just the beginning — I’m dreaming of homemade butter, rich cheeses, and nourishing lotions made right here from our girl’s hard work.
There’s something special about quiet mornings, warm sunshine, busy hands, and a goat who keeps life interesting. Just wanted to share a little piece of our beautiful morning with y’all. 🌿🐐

Meet Wednesday — our beautiful, feisty mouser and full-time farm hand with a zero-tolerance policy on freeloading rodents.
She comes from a legendary line of hardworking huntresses, and let me tell you… the talent runs deep. Her mama was a top-tier mouser, and Wednesday has proudly carried on the family business. She’s even raised a few litters of her own, all showing serious promise in the pest control department.
Out of our five kitties, Wednesday is hands down the MVP of mouse management. Sharp eyes, quick paws, and absolutely no nonsense. She takes her job seriously… and expects payment accordingly.
So in return for her dedicated service, we compensate her generously with treats, love, and the kind of praise only a queen deserves.

I grew up in apartments where cats ruled the kingdom and that felt like plenty. Then my husband and I got our first house… and apparently lost all self-control. First came the dogs, then the furry little empire kept expanding.

We moved north and traded sidewalks for soil, noise for morning chores, and convenience for a life with real purpose. Goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, quail, pigs, rabbits… and yes, enough goats to mention twice because they act like they own the place.

Now we work hard planting food for our table and sharing the blessings with others. It’s muddy boots, early mornings, feed bills, chaos, and critters with attitude. It’s exhausting, beautiful, and worth every second.

This is a life I never dreamed of… but it’s a life I wouldn’t trade for anything. 💛

It appears that two of the offspring will resemble their father, one will take after their mother, and one will bear a likeness to their grandfather Nigel, who is black 🖤
Thyme is ensuring the young ones are well-fed and warm. Fennel and Thyme have been alternating bunny watch.
