This video shows the entire body working all muscles are firing, head is relaxed and freely moving, even back to dock of tail is moving back and forth, shoulder muscles working, even can see his core muscles working. What does this all mean, what or why is this muscle restricted, is it important?
If horses can't build strength throughout the entire body that is when we get issues, hocks, shoulders, sore backs. Sometimes it is conformation, so if in conformation it is always an ongoing struggle to keep strength built up. If it is in conditioning or age of horse, again takes time but can get it there, aged horses do get arthritis or scar tissue need it moving fully and correctly to keep them feeling good. If it is in training probably one of hardest to change. If the head is set "past vertical" on every ride what is really happening is you are restricting front end movement, stopping the shoulders from moving properly, the shoulder muscles become hollow. The top line becomes week, the entire spine isn't moving freely, the rear end is not supported because it doesn't have the strength, the joints aren't moving freely because the body is weak. You can put a band aid with supplements or injections but what is the real issue? Not only over vertical but is the head way high in the air? So many things to keep our ponies happy, then you have injuries and illnesses. As you can see in this video even the dock of the tail moves slightly side to side, it is part of the spine should be moving. FYI this horse 6 years ago was said not to be staying sound on hock injections, has not had one injection is one of the hardest turning and stopping horses around, he does like and feel great with water treatments for sure.
I love helping these athletes for sure

This is another one to get a jump start on conditioning. Common question or concern, my horse doesn't like water, well no choice they are moving before water hits them, it is warm water, and they love it. So many benefits including full movement and less concussion. I have owned a horse personally that was not sound on injections anymore, previous owner, and with water treatments no longer gets any injections. Talk to me if you have any questions. Look how Seven loves his treatments

My pens are full for next few weeks, but welcome haul ins and have pens available after mid March. If your ponies look along this line🤣🤣 let's talk. Water is best and most complete workout, and your saddle may not fit if you are looking at this😬

had to do a little repair on the treadmill today. Thank you Jerry for diagnosis! Told myself to be a big girl and you can do it, if you know me I HATE electrical. Didn't drain heater where I thought so had to drain water at a union, o ring flew out didn't see it until couldn't get union to stop leaking. Put o ring in wrong spot, thank you Scott Lyngstad for video talk. FINALLY got o ring out, put in correct spot, put all back together no leaks and seems to be heating again. YAHOO

I will again tell you all I love working on horses in my treadmill. This guy showed zero lameness and runs well. But I noticed atrophy and tightness in shoulder area and middle of back. After 10 sessions looking great and I can see all of muscles moving correctly. It really works and not just a quick band aide. Love water therapy

Great read. I talk about this all the time if the entire body isn't strong and feeling good it causes "pain" somewhere. To pinpoint that pain is near impossible. Pain pills, supplements, injections are not necessarily hitting the true spot. Water is excellent for this because works entire body in its natural gait, no interference from riding.

Chronic Back Pain Interrupts Myofascial Force Transmission

The myofascial system is a continuous, body-wide network of fascia and muscle that distributes tension, load, and movement forces from one region to another. When it’s healthy, forces generated in the hips, limbs, or trunk travel efficiently through this network, allowing coordinated movement, balanced posture, and elastic energy return.

But chronic back pain changes all of that.
Pain doesn’t stay local — it disrupts the way the entire myofascial web transmits and organizes force.

How Chronic Back Pain Disrupts the Myofascial System

1. Protective Muscle Guarding

Long-term pain triggers automatic bracing: muscles tighten to protect the painful region.

This creates:

• local rigidity

• reduced fascial glide

• blocked or diverted force flow through the kinetic chain

Even small zones of guarding can act like ā€œstiff knotsā€ in an otherwise flexible web.

2. Fascial Densification & Adhesions

Chronic irritation, inflammation, or immobility can cause fascia to thicken, dehydrate, or bind to surrounding structures.

Dense or sticky fascia resists tension and disrupts the smooth transmission of mechanical forces along fascial lines.

Instead of distributing load, the system begins to catch and hold it.

3. Neuromuscular Inhibition

Pain changes motor control patterns, especially in deep stabilizers like:

• multifidus

• transverse abdominis

• pelvic stabilizers

When these muscles become inhibited or delayed, the body can’t efficiently organize or pass forces through the trunk. Larger, superficial muscles overwork to compensate — adding more imbalance to the system.

4. Loss of Elastic Energy Transfer

Healthy fascia behaves like a spring: it stores and releases elastic energy with every step, turn, and lift.

Chronic tension or densification reduces this recoil capacity, leading to:

• heavier, more effortful movement

• faster fatigue

• poor energy return

The body has to muscle its way through movements instead of relying on stored elastic energy.

5. Asymmetrical Load Distribution

Pain changes movement patterns.
We shift, lean, shorten strides, or unconsciously avoid certain ranges.

Over time, these compensations distort:

• fascial tension lines

• joint loading

• force vectors

This often causes secondary areas of pain or dysfunction far from the original site.

Clinical Implications

Chronic back pain can lead to:

• reduced performance and coordination

• increased injury risk elsewhere due to compensation

• slower recovery and decreased tissue adaptability

• impaired balance and postural control

The issue is not only the pain — it’s the altered force economy of the entire body.

Therapeutic Approaches That Help Restore Force Transmission

• Myofascial Release & Soft Tissue Work

Restores glide, hydration, and elasticity across restricted fascial layers.

• Movement Re-Education

Corrects compensatory patterns and restores efficient sequencing through the kinetic chain.

• Progressive Load Training

Gradually re-establishes healthy force distribution and rebuilds stabilizer engagement.

• Vagus Nerve Stimulation

Downregulates chronic tension and helps reduce protective guarding.

The Bigger Picture

Chronic pain is never isolated.
Wherever it start, it changes how the entire myofascial system behaves.

Pain alters tension, timing, and load distribution throughout the web — and that ripple effect continues until the system is rebalanced.

As your season is ending, before winter hits. Bring your 4 legged athletes in for some water treatments. Them going into winter feeling great just gives bodies more time moving and feeling correct. Also I am starting to fill my pens for spring book your horses now.
