Hi all. I am not sure if any of her friends are on here, but I am hoping one or two may see this and can let others know. I am heartbroken to share that we had to put down my sweet Rue this week. She was only two but her autoimmune disease was just too much. Thank you for all the fun and entertainment (and exhaustion! 🙂). ~Courtney McCabe

Update: The dog is safe. The original owner was able to locate and secure him once found in the woods.
……

Missing Dog!

‘Bear’ was last seen at his foster mom’s home on Fleming St., Dedham, around 4:43pm today, before he took off, just 5 minutes after arriving there.

He was briefly seen in the woods between Fleming St. and Fairview Cemetery, a short time later.

Bear’ is a 1.5 year old, 120 lb, Great Dane, with known fear aggression. Please do not chase him or call out to him. Any attempt to handle him should be done with the understanding that his behavioral issue may cause him to display aggression, such as barking, growling, or snapping, due to feeling threatened or scared by unfamiliar people. Bear arrived in Dedham today, from his home in NH-so not only is his foster mom and home new to him, but so is Dedham (and MA!)

Locking him inside a yard he may enter, is a recommendation should such option present. Obviously there should not be any other dogs inside that yard.

Bear is wearing a collar and at the time he ran off, he had a leash attached to him.

At this time, Bear’s original owner is on route to Dedham from NH, since she is the most likely person to collect him.

Please report any confirmed sightings to us 781.751.9106, AND to *Dedham police dispatch* 781.751.9300 so that the owner (and foster) can be directed to that location.

In case you were not aware, Dedham has a relatively new urgent care for pets! Hopefully you’re not in a situation where you need their help, but if you are keep them in mind. Not only are they a great asset for the community but their team has been a big presence at our recent events and clean-ups!

Does anyone recognize this dog? It was found in the Greenlodge neighborhood of Dedham. If you do, please contact Neal!

If you missed the 2nd Annual Dedham Dog Day event yesterday, definitely keep it in mind for next year, as it was truly a great day!

We met some really amazing people- vendors, exhibitors, rescues, visitors and visiting dogs!

It was great to see some of our everyday friends/colleagues from Animal Rescue League of Boston and Dedham Veterinary Associates sharing what they do to help ensure the welfare of our community (and other massachusetts) pets!

We met some new friends who's businesses not only provide great pet (and human) products and services, but that also donate portions of their proceeds to help local animal and human foundations and charities!

For those who were walking around with dogs for adoption, thank you for volunteering your time to come out and share these sweet beings. Your presence also serves as a good reminder that here, and all across the state, there are so many dogs in need of loving homes!

Anyone who either missed our discussion on Ollie's Law, or who wants more information about it, please feel free to call our office!

Again, a huge thank you to the Dedham Dog Park committee for inviting us to this wonderful event! Your devotion to the social, physical and emotional well-being of our community's (and beyond) dogs, is so appreciated!

Dedham is a lucky town to have so many entities focused on animals, animal welfare and community care. And when we all work together, share, communicate, educate, promote-especially at events like this-it makes it even that much better!

9-26-24 Safe at last!
"Hattie" missing from Jamaica Plain for 19 days is found & safe!
Hattie traveled an untold number of miles through Brookline, JP, West Roxbury, Hyde Park, and all the way to Dedham and back. She did not stop moving for the entire time that she was out. Thank you to all who called in sightings.
The biggest impediment to Hattie's recovery was that people kept chasing her, and terrified, she would bolt. There is a reason we ask that lost dogs not be pursued......Hattie was tucked in beside someone's stairway this morning, and her dad lay silently on his belly for hours, silently inching closer to her, until her brain slowed down a bit and she recognized him!
Hattie's mom and dad did an amazing job hanging in there, listening to guidance from MDM volunteer Katie F., and having to suspend instinct and do what would help to ensure a successful recovery.
Hattie is at the vet getting a once over, but looks to be in good shape!
If you should be out and about in the areas mentioned above, and see any Hattie flyers, please remove them and place in the nearest recycling bin - it would be much appreciated

UPDATE 9/14/24: Hattie is still missing! For those local to Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury - please help by checking your properties (under sheds, decks, bushes, in window wells, etc..), outside camera feed and if you think you see her >Do NOT call out to her or approach!! Hattie is very frightened.
