Making progress on my Pheasants Forever donation painting. Lots of work yet on the deer and foreground. This will be one of the first paintings that I’ve actually finished, once completed. Do I add a second deer?

For the deer hunters….

What’s on my mind?? DEER…..Upon my sons request, I did a quick sketch this morning of a deer that used to frequent one of the areas I hunt. Jack has challenged my artistic ability. They say you are your own worst critic, that’s not true at all. When he gets home tomorrow he will critique and I will listen. Based the drawing on antlers from the 2021 season, waiting patiently for this genetic to show up.

A shelf mount bull canvasback I finished for a good friend of mine…. Look forward to more of these. Shelf is eastern red cedar finished with a block plane and draw knife. Fun project.

Some of my Grandpa Gilbert’s favorite flowers were moss roses and dahlias. I was honored when my cousin asked me to sketch her a tattoo in memory of him after his passing last winter. This evening, she sent me a picture of the finished product. I will always remember spending my summers working at Grandma and Grandpas resort on Osakis, where watering these flowers was part of a constant cycle of chores. No matter how much work had to be done, Grandpa would always make time to take me out chasing big bluegills in the evenings. Very excited to see this sketch come to life in honor of such a great person.
