This is training I am sharing from a advanced agility class last Thursday. The video is from today, after a 4 hour drive home from a scent work trial in Kentucky. So if I look tired, I am. I also had knee replacement surgery only 3 months ago. So just fast walking/jog for now.
The red and white dog in the beginning is only in Novice. Video shows how to train using the chaining method (you keep adding steps until you have the complete sequence). At the end I show another faster way to do this, with a masters level dog.

Do realize that I do a lot of work before each class every week. Example- I usually spent about 2 hours every week to prepare, test and tweak a course for class. That doesn't count moving equipment twice to mow and other maintenance. So fees have gone up a little, yet still less than others.

I wanted to show the importance of using the guide wires. This is FinTan. He is a rescue that was dumped in St. Louis. I got him from a rescue person as a 2 yr old last year. He has only started Novice.
Several big things going on in this video. One I am not baby sitting the weaves. I have asked him to enter from a distance of approx. 20 feet away (so he must learn to collect to get the entry). He is also entering from a jump on the left side of the weaves and finding the entrance on the right, without my help. Another important thing is, this is the set of weaves my Advanced class had to do Monday night and some dogs had trouble. The dogs are weaving towards the fence with no idea where they will be going when done. This is done in trials where they have the weaves facing a wall. Lots of dogs will leave the weaves before or at the 10th pole with this setup. By using the Guide wires, it helps them to understand entries from all angles. Going towards a wall or fence and no concern where the handler is.
In the beginning I would use Guide wires on every pole. He is now able to weave without guide wires. This was a special training session for class about staying in at the end with a fence (or wall) in front of them. Note: you do hear me giving verbal encouragement. I will gradually stop that so it will not be needed.
Hope this helps others.

Elevated liver enzymes? Or just more chemical exposure this time of year?

The liver is doing a lot of heavy lifting right now.

The active compound in the herb milk thistle (Silybum marianum) has been shown to support liver function in both healthy dogs and those with liver challenges. Studies show improvements in key liver enzymes like ALT, AST, and GGT, along with reduced inflammatory burden.

What’s especially exciting is how well it works with the body’s own detox systems—supporting glutathione pathways and pairing synergistically with nutrients like NAC to help the liver do what it was designed to do.

: Strategic nutraceutical support helps buffer oxidative damage, replenish glutathione, and support phase I and phase II detoxification—giving the liver what it needs to keep doing its job efficiently. Here’s what I’m giving to my pets: www.liverliftdetox.com

Scientists have uncovered a potential explanation for why some dogs experience seizures and other neurological issues after taking common flea and tick medications like Bravecto, NexGard, Credelio, Simparica, and Revolution. Real-world reports show that certain dogs, especially puppies, older dogs, or those with genetic vulnerabilities, can develop tremors, seizures, or other nervous system problems. The study suggests that these drugs may reach the brain through a “back door” pathway called centripetal (retrograde) axonal transport, bypassing the usual protective blood brain barrier. Additionally, certain chemical additives in the medications, such as PFAS compounds, may increase this risk by helping the drugs enter nerve cells or acting as neurotoxic agents themselves. Overall, this research highlights a previously underappreciated nerve pathway that could explain why some dogs are more susceptible to neurological side effects from flea and tick treatments.

I have updated the website with information on classes. Spring semester is not offering as many classes due to recent knee replacement surgery I just had 2.5 weeks ago.
The college is currently looking for another location for our Scent Work Classes (the Fire Dept took over the Training Center) and the Home Obedience classes I have posted a referral to another positive method trainer.
Agility classes will still be on our property and will start with Beginners March 15th and Advanced March 16th.

If interested you can email be for more information. Please go to the website first for details. www.canineteamtraining.com

The spay/neuter timing debate just got settled.

UC Davis completed a 10-year study across 35 breeds. For Dobermans, the results were shocking:

Males neutered before 24 months: 24% joint disorder rate
Males kept intact: 4% joint disorder rate

That's 6X higher risk of hip dysplasia, cruciate tears, and early arthritis.

The science is clear: s*x hormones tell bones when to stop growing. Remove them early, and bones grow 15-20% longer than they should. Wrong joint angles. Permanent damage.
Arthritis by age 3.

Updated recommendations:
Large breed males: 18-24 months
Large breed females: 12-18 months
Small breeds: 6 months is fine
Size matters. Science proves it.
