I think we need to normalize the real side of homesteading… because somewhere along the way Pinterest and TikTok convinced y’all this life looks like a magazine spread 24/7.
Let me go ahead and clear that up real quick:
It does not. 😂
Y’all ever notice how in those videos everything is:
✨ perfectly organized
✨ labeled in matching jars
✨ not a single random object in sight
Meanwhile… over here on an actual working farm…
I’ve got what I lovingly call “project piles.”
Now if you don’t know what that is, let me educate you real quick.
A project pile is:
• Not junk
• Not trash
• Not hoarding
It is future potential.
That crooked board?
→ Future chicken coop repair.
That random bucket with no handle?
→ Probably gonna hold something important one day.
That pile of metal, wire, and “what even IS that?”
→ Don’t worry about it. I have a vision. 😌
The problem is… when you reuse everything…
You gotta store everything.
And suddenly your whole property starts looking like:
“Pinterest… but after a tornado.” 🌪️
And listen… I know it looks questionable to outsiders.
But I PROMISE you…
The minute you throw something away, that is the EXACT moment you need it.
Every. Single. Time.
You’ll be standing there like:
“Now where’s that broken gate latch I saved 3 years ago for no reason??”
Gone.
Because you got “organized” one time.
Never again.
So no… my farm may not look like a curated aesthetic dream.
But it does look like:
• projects in progress
• ideas waiting to happen
• and about 47 things I swear I’m fixing “this weekend”
And honestly?
That’s real life.
If your farm looks a little chaotic…
If you’ve got piles…
If your “organization system” is basically “I think it’s over there somewhere”…
Congratulations.
You’re doing it right. 👏
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go dig through a pile to find something I absolutely cannot live without today… that I haven’t needed in 2 years. 😅
