How to keep your pups safe during the heat!

This week is going to be HOT HOT HOT! Beat the heat and keep your furry friends safe this summer! 🐾☀️

Our pets can overheat incredibly fast, leading to life-threatening heatstroke. While we enjoy the sunshine, it is our job to keep them cool and protected.

Make sure to share these hot-weather essentials with your fellow pet owners:

🚗 Never Leave Them in a Car
Even on a mild day or parked in the shade, parked cars trap heat. The temperature inside can reach fatal levels in minutes. If you are running errands, leave your pets safely at home.

✋The 5-Second Pavement Rule
Before walking your pet, place the back of your hand on the pavement for five seconds. If it is too hot for your hand, it is too hot for their paws! Stick to the grass or walk during early morning/late evening hours. Do not walk them on the concrete or asphalt during the day. It is too hot for their feet!

🩺 Watch for Heatstroke Symptoms
Look out for heavy panting, excessive drooling, glazed eyes, weakness, or collapse. If you notice these signs, move your pet to air conditioning immediately, apply cool (not cold) water to their body, and contact a vet right away.

✂️ Avoid Shaving Their Coat
Regular brushing is crucial, but never shave your dog completely. Their fur acts as natural insulation to protect them against both sunburn and overheating.

💧 Provide Shade & Fresh Water
Always limit intense outdoor exercise and ensure your pet has constant access to a shady spot and plenty of fresh, cold drinking water.
