🐾 SOCIALIZATION BUILDS CONFIDENCE 🐾
This is Gus at Tractor Supply working on his social skills—and this is such an important part of raising a well-balanced Cane Corso.
Socialization isn’t just letting your dog meet other dogs or having strangers pet them. It’s about exposure, confidence, neutrality, and learning how to behave appropriately in the real world.
Trips like this expose Gus to automatic doors, shopping carts, different flooring, unfamiliar sounds and smells, strangers, children, other animals, and situations he doesn’t experience at home.
With a powerful guardian breed like the Cane Corso, this work is extremely important. We don’t want a dog that reacts to everything unfamiliar. We want a dog that can walk into a new environment, take everything in, look to their handler for direction, and remain calm, confident, and under control.
And socialization doesn’t stop when they’re little puppies. As they grow and mature, continuing these positive real-world experiences helps reinforce the stable temperament we want.
The goal isn’t to make your Cane Corso everyone’s best friend. The goal is to teach them that not everything unfamiliar is a threat.
Genetics give us the foundation.
Socialization builds confidence.
Training creates understanding.
