At the most recent Covelo Clinic, one of our Accessible Veterinary Care programs, volunteers from the UC Davis Weill School of Veterinary Medicine provided essential veterinary care for hundreds of animals in an underserved rural community while helping train the next generation of veterinarians in accessible, community-centered care.

From routine wellness visits and spay/neuter surgeries to helping a severely injured dog named Nala receive lifesaving treatment, the clinic demonstrated how supporting animal health can strengthen the wellbeing of entire communities.

UC Davis Accessible Veterinary Care (AVC) is excited to team up with Meals on Wheels Yolo County and their MOW PAWS program, a new initiative to support Meals on Wheels clients with pets. This program is currently supporting 50 households in Yolo County with pet supplies, and through a generous donation of food and supplies from Petco we were able to share the love for MOW PAWS cat owners.

We are grateful to our colleagues at Sacramento County’s Bradshaw Animal Shelter for reaching out and coordinating this donation on behalf of the greater Sacramento region. Ensuring that pets are recognized as valued members of the family should be a priority for every safety net program. AVC also extends sincere thanks to faculty member Dr. Jim Clark for connecting us with the MOW PAWS program, as well as to the local veterinary community for their continued support of Meals on Wheels clients and their pets.
