Accessible Veterinary Care

Fireworks can be stressful for pets, but a little preparation can go a long way toward preventing lost pets and avoidable veterinary emergencies. We're sharing a few practical tips to help keep pets safe this holiday weekend:

- Make sure ID tags and microchip information are up-to-date (you can also write your phone # on their collar if you can’t get a tag in time)
- Keep your pets indoors and secured
- Leave your pets at home when you go out for parties and fireworks
- Keep hazardous materials away from pets (fireworks, sparklers, charcoal, toxic foods, etc)

At the most recent Covelo Clinic, one of our Accessible Veterinary Care programs, volunteers from the UC Davis Weill School of Veterinary Medicine provided essential veterinary care for hundreds of animals in an underserved rural community while helping train the next generation of veterinarians in accessible, community-centered care.

From routine wellness visits and spay/neuter surgeries to helping a severely injured dog named Nala receive lifesaving treatment, the clinic demonstrated how supporting animal health can strengthen the wellbeing of entire communities.
