OKP is a non-profit, foster-based rescue (we do NOT have a designated facility for kittens) run by vet students. Orphaned and abandoned neonatal kittens are taken in from the community and given a complete physical exam by the project coordinators who are current veterinary students. These kittens are then fostered by a community of volunteers who bottle-raise them in their own homes. The kittens

are weaned, vaccinated, FeLV tested, spayed or neutered, and dewormed vaccinations before they are put up for adoption, usually by 10-12 weeks of age. Other Useful Links: https://linktr.ee/orphankittenproject

✨Feline Feature: Carrot, Lamb Chop, and Puddle✨

Meet our Springtime Litter 🐣

🧡Meet Carrot (Orange tabby boy)🥕
Carrot is the absolute sweetest kitten you’ll ever meet! He loves people and just wants to be with you at all times. He is a non-stop purrer who loves belly rubs, pets, and will give kisses. He is incredibly gentle and doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. Carrot is also a very brave boy. He came to us with a URI, but has fully recovered and is ready for his forever home. Whoever adopts this little one will be very lucky!

🩵Meet Puddle (grey tabby boy)☔️
Puddle is an absolute love bug! He kind of has a perpetual sad face and can be a little shy at first, but he warms up in no time. He loves getting pets and treats more than anything. Even though he’s the smallest of his brothers, he is super vocal, loves a good wrestling match, and always lets you know when he wants attention. He is super sweet and is a very brave boy, he has fully recovered from a URI, and he can’t wait to find a loving home that will give him the care he deserves!

🖤Meet Lamb Chop (solid black boy)🐑
Lamb Chop is the sweetest “void” kitten. He is incredibly friendly but also independent and loves to explore new things. When he’s done exploring, he loves to cuddle on your lap and get belly rubs. He came to us with a URI and ringworm, and throughout his whole treatment, he was an absolute dream to medicate and care for, he even loved his bath time! He will probably be the nicest and most easy-going kitten you will ever meet. Anyone would be incredibly lucky to adopt him!

Hash Brown was surrendered to us with what was thought to be a hepatic cyst.

He was sent in for emergency surgery when his abdomen was painful and hard where it was discovered that he had a renal cyst that was half of his size!

He ended up undergoing a nephrectomy and is feeling so much better.

Thanks to a grant from Orphan Kitten Club , this little potato was able to undergo this lifesaving surgery. Their generous support helped cover his surgery, hospitalization, and the care required for a patient his size.

Now, Hash Brown is recovering and being the normal kitten he deserves to be!

A huge thank you to Orphan Kitten Club for giving this guy a chance for the life he deserves!

✨Happy Throwback Thursday! ✨

We are highlighting some of our long-term OKP residents and older cats and kittens who are looking for a home still!

Meet Mama Nessie! A two-year-old cat who has been up for adoption for 11 months and patiently awaiting her forever home still!

Sweet Nessie came into rescue as the proud mama of FIVE adorable little monsters—the Monster Litter! She was the best mama, loving and caring for her babies until each one was ready to find their forever family.

And guess what? All five babies have been adopted, but Nessie is still patiently waiting for her forever home

Nessie is what we like to call a “dog-like” cat. She’ll happily greet you at the door, meow for food or attention, and soak up all the affection you’re willing to give. She loves being around people and will stick close, whether you’re relaxing on the couch or working away at your desk. While she’s fairly tolerant of being picked up, she’s happiest just being near you, keeping you company.

Confident and adaptable, Nessie would do best if introduced slowly to children. She would specifically do better with older children who know how to approach cats slowly and carefully. Nesie would love to be the only pet in the household. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion with just a touch of mythical charm, Nessie is your girl!

✨Feline Feature: Rosie, Tourmaline, Tiger Lily, Phoenix ✨

Rosie is a lively, adventurous kitten with endless energy and a playful spirit. She loves to zoom around the house, chase toys, and would probably win a kitten agility contest! Rosie is also affectionate and loves to cuddle, be comforted, and stay close to her people. She has a charming habit of curling up beside you or at your feet while you relax. She is a true foodie who never says no to treats or mealtime. Rosie is the perfect mix of playful confidence and loving companionship. (Photos 1, 5, and 9)

Tourmaline is a beautiful, sweet kitten with a gentle and playful personality. She enjoys exploring, playing with toys, and spending time with other cats while also appreciating quiet moments to cuddle. She loves being pet. Tiger Lily is a calm, confident kitten with a playful and easygoing personality. She enjoys chasing toys, exploring, and playing with other cats, but she also loves relaxing in a cozy spot. Phoenix is a sweet, gentle kitten who loves to climb, explore, and chase feather toys. She enjoys playing with other cats but also loves quiet cuddle time with the people she trusts. Meet Pimento & Puya! 🌶️

Pimento is as sweet as the pepper she’s named after. Though she’s the tiniest kitten in her litter, she’s full of quiet confidence. She likes to take in the world before jumping into the fun, but once she does, she’s all about wrestling with her kitten friends, chasing toys, and exploring every corner of the house. After playtime, she transforms into the sweetest little cuddle bug, happily curling up on your chest or beside your legs for a nap. She also loves lounging in a sunny windowsill, quietly watching the world go by with her favorite people and feline friends nearby. Both Pimento and Puya get along wonderfully with other cats, do well with calm, cat-savvy dogs, and are ready to find loving forever homes. They aren’t bonded and can be adopted separately, but each would love a home with another friendly feline companion to play, cuddle, and grow up with.

✨Medical Monday: Meet Snowcone!✨

Snowcone’s journey began on the streets of West Sacramento, where he was found with a devastating injury to his front leg. Based on his exam, the injury was most consistent with either a brachial plexus avulsion or an old fracture that healed incorrectly (a malunion). Unfortunately, he had no deep pain sensation in the limb, meaning the nerves were no longer functioning and the leg would never regain normal use.

The kindest option was to amputate the limb, giving Snowcone the chance to live a comfortable, pain-free life.

Now this handsome boy is learning just how incredible tripod cats can be! Every day he becomes more confident as he figures out how to run, jump, play, and explore on three legs. He takes every new challenge in stride and isn’t letting anything slow him down.

Snowcone may be a little reserved when you first meet him, but once he feels safe, he’s one of the sweetest cats you’ll ever know. He loves curling up by your legs for a cozy nap, melts into every pet, and will happily give you little smooches in return. Catnip toys are his absolute favorite, and watching him play reminds us that losing a leg doesn’t mean losing the joy of being a cat.

Snowcone is proof that tripod cats can live a normal life despite their past injuries and trauma. Snowcone is now up for adoption looking for his forever home to continue to be the tripod cat of everyone’s dreams.

✨Feline Feature: Cafecita (aka Rocky)✨

Meet Cafecita!

Cafecita is a sweet, gentle girl who takes a bit of time to warm up. At first, she prefers to observe from a hiding spot, quietly watching you. A few treats and a little patience are the quickest way to her heart!

Cafecita loves simply being in your company. Whether you’re studying, working from home, or relaxing on the couch, she’ll happily sit by your side. One of her cutest habits is peeking her head out from her hiding place the moment she hears your voice before making her way over to say hello. She also loves to rub her tail on you.

She enjoys cuddles and has the perfect balance of affection and independence. She’ll let you know when she’s had enough attention by wandering off, but don’t worry—before long, she’ll be right back by your side.

Cafecita can be easily startled. She tends to run when doors suddenly open or close or if someone new walks into the room. Despite this, she’s perfectly comfortable with everyday background sounds like the TV or music.
