OKP is a non-profit, foster-based rescue (we do NOT have a designated facility for kittens) run by vet students. Orphaned and abandoned neonatal kittens are taken in from the community and given a complete physical exam by the project coordinators who are current veterinary students. These kittens are then fostered by a community of volunteers who bottle-raise them in their own homes. The kittens are weaned, vaccinated, FeLV tested, spayed or neutered, and dewormed vaccinations before they are put up for adoption, usually by 10-12 weeks of age. ✨Feline Feature: Robin✨

Robin is a sweet little gray calico girl looking for her forever home. She loves playing with her cat littermates and is always the first to greet new people.
If you’re looking to adopt more than one kitten, Robin would love to go home with one of her littermates, Fred, Gary, or Artie. They make wonderful companions and can keep each other company as they grow.

✨Feline Feature: Jet✨

Meet Jet!
Jet marches to the beat of his own drum! This little guy is a professional zoomie expert with super speed. One minute he’s here, the next he’s halfway across the room. Blink and you might miss him!
He’s curious, adventurous, and loves exploring his surroundings. Toys are his favorite form of entertainment, and he can keep himself busy playing for hours!
Jet does well with other animals but prefers to hang back and approach on his own terms. Once he warms up, he’s happy to be part of the action. He’s a little shy with people at first, but he does enjoy being held (if you can catch him!), and he’ll thrive with someone willing to give him a little patience and let his personality shine.
Jet would do well in a home with children or other pets. He’s just happy to be included and have a place to call his own!

💕Medical Monday: Hemingway 💕

Hemingway came to OKP with his two siblings when they were found as young babies in a feral cat colony. Because they were so young, we immediately took them in so they could have a comfortable life indoors! We noticed that Hemingway had a little bit of an odd-shaped chest, but otherwise seemed normal. A few weeks later, after a rough bout of playing with his brothers, Hemingway collapsed and was immediately brought to the ER. Luckily, Hemingway regained consciousness quickly and was back to normal, very confused by the amount of people fussing over him! Hemingway was diagnosed with lordosis of his thoracic vertebral column which causes him to have a flat chest. Luckily, he has been perfect ever since his diagnosis and did not require additional care. Hemingway is looking for a forever home that knows that he’s a little bit special, and will give him the comfortable and relaxed life he deserves! Learn more about this adorable kitten below!

Meet Hemingway! Sweet, gentle, and relentlessly affectionate, Hemingway is looking for a full-time lap! He is a calm and cuddly boy whose main goal in life is to be as close to you as physically possible. If your ideal evening involves a warm kitten melting into your arms, this BIG sweetheart is ready to be your designated snuggle bug. He is a very big and fluffy kitten, just like an adorable teddy bear!

Hemingway will be shy at first but can be easily bribed with treats and some well placed chin scratches. He gets along well with other cats provided he’s given enough time to adjust.

Hemingway does have a slightly flat chest, which can affect his breathing. He can still go for a good old round with the cat wand, but he shouldn’t get extremely riled up. He has not experienced any symptoms related to his flat chest since the initial diagnosis and is not on any meds or treatments for it. All he’s looking for is a permanent lap to call home!

✨Feline Feature: Chantilly and Meringue✨

Meet Meringue (short haired) and Chantilly (medium haired)!

Meringue is a little ball of sunshine wrapped in fur and powered entirely by purrs! This playful, vocal girl loves to run, play, and soak up all the snuggles from her favorite people. Meringue has never met a living thing she didn’t like! Cats, dogs, kids, you name it — she’s ready to be everyone’s best friend. She’s even happy to entertain herself with the tiniest scraps of fluff from her canine friends’ toys. If there’s a party happening, Meringue is there! When she’s not busy being the life of the party, you can find her curled up next to your shoulder, snuggled at your feet, or hanging out with her sister and other kitty friends. She absolutely loves being held and will happily purr her way through every cuddle session. Meringue is a happy little purring machine who seems to love life just for the sake of living it. She would thrive in a home with other feline friends but would also do wonderfully with dogs and children.

Meet Chantilly! This fluffy seal point beauty is a purring machine with a wonderfully easygoing, go-with-the-flow personality. She’s happy to be part of the action but equally content doing her own thing. Basically, she’s just here for a good time! Chantilly loves zooming around with her sister and has no problem getting nose-to-nose with the resident dogs. She can be a little timid when first meeting new friends, but give her a few hours and she’ll be purring up a storm and snuggling with her feline companions. She’s a curious little shadow who likes to supervise whatever you’re up to around the house, but she’s just as happy to curl up in her favorite bed for a cozy nap or break out into zoomies when a new toy catches her eye. With her adaptable, laid-back personality, Chantilly would fit right into a home with other friendly cats or dogs. Whether it’s playtime, cuddle time, or simply hanging out, Chantilly is happy to go with the flow!

Unfortunately, black cats (and black dogs) are often overlooked in shelters. “Black Cat Bias” refers to the higher rates of surrenders to shelters, lower adoption rates, and high chance of euthanasia. It’s thought that these rates are due to the continued, but unfounded, superstitions around these cats. Bringing home a black cat can save a life! Here at OKP, our thorough adoption process makes sure all our kittens go to great homes!
