Can’t get in the way of our sparkle. Finishing June strong, Clarity was Dressage Proud at CDI!

Elizabeth donned two hats, competing both Fireball and Ray as well as coaching our team riders. Performing at Fourth 2, she and Fireball earned a whopping 65.789% and won their class. Switching from her duet with Fireball in the advanced class, Elizabeth took Ray for his first outing at Training 1. Ray put on his big boy shoes and danced his way for a lovely fifth place pink ribbon. New teammate Michele hopped aboard superstar Briggs for a Training 1 test, earning a fabulous 65.192% for the blue ribbon! Alissa piloted Briggs down centerline in Training 2 for 2nd place in the class. Rounding out Training level, Liam and trusty Java had a fantastic test, first time out at Training 1 to earn a 62.885% and 3rd place. Instructor Jasmine, riding the enchanted Ophelia, made her official Clarity Team debut at First 1 with an impressive score of 65% and third place. Jasmine won a spirit award for her rainbow Pride look. The final performers of the Clarity Dance Company, Shannon and Harley, waltzed their way through their musical freestyle for a score of 60.528% and fifth place.

In addition to riding, Clarity’s Dressage Team managed the show, choosing the Dressage Proud theme to celebrate the end of Pride Month and raise funds for The Trevor Project. A big THANK YOU to everyone who made the CDI schooling show possible! Katie, Jesseanne, Rebecca, Kelsey, Laura, Colleen, Thomas, Liam, and Lainey were a fabulous show day crew! Thank you to Elizabeth and Jesseanne for ensuring the ring change went smoothly. Also, thank you to Laura, Elizabeth, Katie, Liam, Doug, Lenka and Ellie for helping with the ring setup on Saturday night. Thank you to Team Captain Shannon for keeping track of all of us!

The Clarity riders were absolutely fabulous during the show! These gals and guys characterized friendship and teamwork, from helping each other with whatever was needed, to cheering on teammates ringside, and ensuring the horses were as hydrated and cooled as possible. Finally, the six wonderful horses–Ray, Fireball, Briggs, Harley, Ophelia, and Java–were THE BEST behaved and best performing horses on an extremely hot and humid Sunday! Carrots for everyone!

It’s not too late to contribute to our Trevor Project fundraiser. We raised $253 so far, but the need is never ending! https://give.thetrevorproject.org/fundraiser/6432472

Clarity homebreds Mic and Ray got to meet their idol Olympian Boyd Martin at the Promise Landing clinic. Hot weather couldn’t keep the boys down with Katie and Lauren riding. Boyd is a very approachable clinician – he’s got an easygoing and encouraging demeanor while being demanding of quality and not hesitating to send riders for a repeat until they could improve a sequence. Correct basics was the theme of the day with accessible exercises focusing on bend, balance, and transitions. Boyd gave insightful comments about small changes that riders could make for big improvement and was particularly encouraging to the young riders in the group and to a few riders who had spicier, challenging rides

Thanks to Boyd for the opportunity to learn and Promise Landing Farm for hosting.

Blue for Tucker’s Flashy Fireball at the PVDA Summer Show! Fireball and Elizabeth won the Prix St Georges on Saturday with 63.676%.

Back on Sunday, Elizabeth rode Sanctify BEC for his first licensed show at First 1. Despite a ring move, big show environment, and hot weather, Sanctify was very good, keeping his famous calm and happy demeanor from warm up all the way down the final centerline. Fireball came along for Sunday taking another trip down centerline at Intermediate 1.

Thank you to owners Jesseanne Norton and Marija Trieschman for sharing your amazing horses! Thank you to PVDA volunteers for keeping our ‘home show’ going.

Old Dominion weekend, the most fun you’ll have with rocks in June!

Clarity had a great group for our annual inspection of the rocks in Orkney Springs, Virginia. We started out Friday with Taxi and Jesseanne heading out for the 55-mile ride. Next up, three Clarity riders plus honorary Clarity Feral Junior Dodie Sable for the LD. Dodie kindly mentored Magnolia and loaned super pony Willow for the ride. Joining Dodie and Magnolia for the 25-mile ride were GAIT rescue duo Delilah and Christa with Jessica and Olivia riding.

Coach Elizabeth was on crew duty for Friday’s ride and the team made her hustle! After starting Jesseanne and then the LD crew, Elizabeth hurried up to the Bird Haven away vet hold just in time to catch Jesseanne coming in. After feeding and electrolyting both parties, Elizabeth sent them back out on trail and enjoyed a short break before Dodie and Magnolia came in at the head of the LD pack. Two more horses cooled and through vet check, two more riders fed and watered. Just as Bee and Willow were getting tacked back up, Jessica and Olivia came into hold with one less shoe than they had at the start! We vetted the horses through, stopped in at farrier Jen Smith, and then got our last to LD riders back out on trail heading home.

At this point, the weather has taken a turn for the hot and humid so Elizabeth headed out to buy ice to take to finish. Arriving back at camp in time to see Dodie and Magnolia heading down the road to finish line, Elizabeth put on the hustle to fill waters with ice and get Willow and Bee pulsed down. The effort was worth it as the pair tied for 4th place! No sooner were those two mares tucked back in their paddock, then Elizabeth caught sight of our other two mares coming into finish! Running (yes literally) back up to finish hauling ice, Elizabeth met up with Jessica and Olivia to get the GAIT girls cooled and pulsed. The ice was well worth it as the hot afternoon sun worked against us. After a group effort, we got the mares settled for 25th and 26th placings with good vet cards at completion.

Elizabeth was just getting ready to run back to Bird Haven to catch Jesseanne and Taxi at their last hold, when the pair showed up back at base camp! Turns out Taxi’s method of rock inspection was a little too ‘hooves on’ and they pulled at Laurel Run for minor lameness after losing a shoe. Lucky for Jesseanne, 95% of the rocks at OD 55 are before Laurel Run so she didn’t miss out on anything.

Saturday Clarity horses and riders were at it again in the Ride and Tie competition. Olivia teamed up with Ride and Tie legends Janice Heltibridle and her horse Bobby to run/ride the 20-mile Ride and Tie coming in second place with a remarkably perky Olivia after 25 miles of riding and 20 miles of ride and tie in 48 hours. Christa teamed up with juniors Elle and Andrew for all their first Equathon. Elle rode Christa 12 miles and then Andrew ran the second 6-mile leg for a team First Place!

Our Clarity Team volunteers were above and beyond for this year’s OD ride. Team Dad Douglas was on gate guard and parking duty at Bird Haven the whole weekend. Intern Colleen is now an expert timer after two days of timing at Bird Haven and Bucktail. After running around like a crazy person on Friday, Elizabeth enjoyed a quiet day of ambulance driving and pulsing at Bird Haven on Saturday. Skylar was awesome crew for the crewless both days at Lauren Run, joined by Jessica, Jesseanne and Magnolia on Saturday. Katherine helped crewless riders at Bird Haven one day and Laurel Run the next. Mariya last minute voluntold herself into two days of vet-scribing and we don’t think the vets are giving her back. Jazmin also stepped up to scribe this year and learned a ton!

A huge thank you to OD management, vets, and army of volunteers for hosting. Thank you to Dodie for your generous loan of Willow and mentorship of Magnolia. Thank you to our Clarity teammates for crewing and volunteering. Thank you to Jen Smith for saving the day with your farrier skills! Thanks to ADM and FCA for fueling our horses through some of the most grueling miles on the east coast.

WTFox is happening with the children and horses all growing up?!?!!

WTFox Wednesdays with Marlborough Hunt Club is a great midweek venue to get the babies out to a local show, but what has happened to our babies? Surprisingly real-sized human Liam on his mom's very real-sized OTTB Java made a combined test out of Intro dressage and cross-rails jumper division with balanced and deliberate trips through both rings. Perfection himself, no-longer-a-baby Ray proved that he is the Morgan who does it all, calmly carrying Lainey through the leadline combined test division with Intro dressage and cross-rails accompanied by Coach Lauren. Both kids earned 70+% on their dressage tests and were clear over fences. No adults cried, probably.

Thank you to Marlborough Hunt Club for hosting!

Clarity's Jumper Team made a great showing at this spring’s 4H shows with strong performances in both May and June. We had a mix of new and returning competitors plus lots of support from our families and barn-mates.

At the May show starting us strong in the Leadline division, Leni placed 4th in flat class, 1st in pattern class, finishing division Reserve Champion. Angel, Ella, and Josie represented us in the Walk division, with Angel and Ella tied for 6th in the flat class, Ella placing 2nd in pattern, and Josie placing 5th in flat and 6th in pattern. Amelia, Annabel, and Austen were our Walk/Trot division reps, with Amelia finishing 4th in the flat class and Austen 5th. In the W/T/C division, Teagan placed 2nd in flat, 2nd over fences, finishing division Reserve champion, and Colette placed 3rd in the flat class.

For the June show Leni started us again in Leadline placing 4th in flat and 2nd in pattern. The Walk division team included Angel, Ella, Josie, and Nora, with Ella placing 6th in flat, Josie 4th in flat, and Nora 2nd in flat and 3rd in the pattern class. Amelia, Anna, and Austen were our Walk/Trot division reps in June, with Amelia placing 6th in flat, 6th over fences and Anna placing 4th in flat. In the W/T/C division, Colette earned a well deserved 1st in flat and over fences finishing division Champion and Teagan placed 3rd in the flat class.

Big hugs for our team horses CrackerJack, Coca, Rose, and Sammy, who continue to prove that 'chestnuts are the best nuts' with this year's 4H roster. Thank you to the Linthicum 4H Hi-Riders for hosting us and to our Clarity family for supporting us and volunteering. Thank you to Clarity coaches Elizabeth, Lauren, and Maria del Carmen for putting up with, or being, the 'nuts' of our team!

'Fit to continue' is the criteria at every distance ride vet check, including at the finish line. If your horse isn't good enough to head back on trail, even if there isn't another loop in the ride, you are disqualified. We put the 'fit to continue' concept to test at Broxton Bridge Let's Have Fun Riding this spring in South Carolina.

Clarity's Distance Team headed down to Broxton a day early to give the horses a rest after the long haul and take advantage of the opportunity to get in a day of ride volunteering. After an uneventful Thursday trip to SC and a fun, if hot, day of endurance from the volunteer side on Friday we all headed to bed for our ride day on Saturday.

Broxton this spring was designed to knock out a few of our season goals. Jesseanne and Estrella rode the 50 miler to earn a qualifying ride for 2026 Nationals. Olivia on Taxi finally made Olivia's goal of completing a 50 mile ride (4th time's the charm apparently). More than meeting their goals, Jesseanne and Olivia finished in Top Ten and had a great day riding together. Jessica with Delilah took a go at Jessica's first 50 mile ride, living the adage 'To Finish is to Win' while earning the turtle award! Meanwhile, Elizabeth rode Ray on his first LD for the 25 mile ride. With the only goal a successful completion, Ray showed us all that he can more than meet his family's distance riding genetic potential, easily pulling out a 5th place finish and tying for High Vet Score.

But our Fun-O-Meter was not full yet!!! As our 50 mile riders were finishing, a Junior in the 100 mile ride lost her sponsor only halfway into their ride. Lacking the ability to mind her own business or say no, Elizabeth quickly volunteered to cover the last two loops (30 miles) if the Junior got that far. About 9pm Elizabeth found herself making good on her promise and tacked up Ray. The pair headed out with the Junior for the 15 mile loop in the dark and Ray was once again perfection. After 40 miles total in the day and just having completed his first night ride, Ray trotted strongly into vetting and was deemed 'fit to continue' with flying colors. Elizabeth, however, deemed that it was past Ray's bedtime and got big brother Taxi ready to head out for one final loop.

As we headed out with the Junior a little after midnight, the weather took a sharp turn for the worst with downpouring rain and constant thunder and lightning. Solid citizen Taxi and his glow-in-the-dark white coat ushered the Junior and her horse around their final loop. It was incredible to es**rt this Junior and her mustang across the finish line around 3am to complete both of their first 100 mile rides. Taxi felt great after a 65 mile day, still fit to continue with enthusiasm.

Thank you to Cheryl Van Deusen, volunteers, and vets for hosting Broxton. It's always worth the drive for this well run and inviting ride. Thank you to ADM Animal Nutrition - Horse Feeds and Farmers Cooperative Association, Inc. for keeping our horses 'fit to continue' through the unexpected extra loops! Thank you to teammates Gwynn, Skylar, and Audrey for crewing and to Jesseanne for graciously loaning Taxi for the last loop and then staying up all night to make sure we had plenty of snacks and made it in through the storm.

Finally, thank you to my amazing horses. I asked and they answered. I am so proud to be their breeder, trainer, and rider.

Ray took a break from girl-dadding to run around Twilight eventing at Loch Moy Farm. Perfect as always, Ray and Lauren finished on their dressage score with clear showjumping and cross-country rounds. Ray's unflappable attitude and happiness to 'do the things!' continue to impress.

Thank you to Loch Moy farm and volunteers for hosting us!
