Kane made a new friend today 🦋

Kane and his new moth friend are the newest symbiotic relationship in the animal kingdom. The moth is protected and Kane gets attention so he can get adopted! It’s a win-win!

Kane is 3 years old, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He is house trained and has done well when paired with the right dog companion. We think he’d be happy being your only pup, but also may do well with a good-match dog companion, too.

If you’d like to meet Kane, just stop by the shelter during our adoption hours Monday, Wednesday and Friday 12-5:30, Thursday 2:30-5 and weekends 12-4:30! All adult dog and cat adoption fees are also waived through this Sunday!

Cheech, Chong and Smokey (yes, those were their names when they arrived 😂) are searching for homes!

They’re social piggies and would love a guinea pig loving household. Smokey is 4, Chong is 1, and Cheech is 2. All are males.

Chong and Smokey are bonded and must be adopted together. Cheech is newer to the group and could be adopted with them or would likely do well with another companion.

We also have another 1 year old piggy named Bosco who just arrived today that also is looking for a home! 🐹

Vikki had a spa day 🧖🏼‍♀️ 💅🏽

She’s pampered and ready for you to meet her!

Vikki is around 7 years old and the perfect mix of lazy days and bursts of zoomies. She is house-trained, rides well in the car, enjoys walks, and has done wonderfully in a foster home with children ages 9 and older.

Vikki has done well around other dogs on occasion and hasn’t had issues walking by other pups, but prefers not to live with other dogs, so a home without other pets is her best fit.

Vikki is only around 35lbs, spayed, heart worm negative, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped already.

Vikki has been in a few foster homes too, and they all have had absolutely wonderful things to say about her!

We’re so excited to share the great outcomes of this week’s vaccine and microchip clinic…

🥁 DRUM ROLLLLL 🥁

💉 138 pets received rabies vaccines
🐱 49 cats received combo vaccines
🐶 74 dogs received combo vaccines
🏡 79 pets were microchipped

Thank you to everyone who came out to the shelter to get your pet updated on vital basic vaccines and to receive a microchip!

A huge thank you to Dr. Mulch as well for your dedication to the community and passion for providing accessible veterinary care opportunities!

Thank you Animal Rescue League of Iowa and Best Friends Animal Society for providing the grant that made free vaccine clinics possible this year at the Humane Society of Scott County!

Boy bands are totally making a comeback.

RATSTREET’S BACK, ALRIGHT! 🎶

We have 20 male rats all looking for homes!

They are relatively social rats, but understandably a bit nervous in this new environment. Rats can make wonderful pet companions, so we are seeking adopters with previous rat ownership experience or adopters willing to learn and give them the care they need ❤️🐀

Pet rats need a spacious, secure kennel with solid surfaces, soft bedding, hiding spots, toys, and plenty of opportunities to climb and explore. Because they’re highly social, they should live with at least one compatible rat and receive daily interaction and supervised time outside their cage. They also need a balanced diet, fresh water, regular kennel cleaning, and veterinary care from a vet experienced with small animals.

Oh country roads, take me HOME!

Nugget is still searching for a great match 🚜 One of our amazing foster families put together this adorable montage of photos and videos of Nugget.

This is definitely the perfect song for him!

If you want a dog that:
- is house trained
- loves people
- does great at the vet office
- snuggles in bed
- doesn’t chew your items or make a mess
- knows tons of tricks
- comes with post adoption support and training
- walks well on a leash
- is the only pet in the home

If all of these traits above are what you’re looking for, Nugget might be your guy.

🆓💉Scott County residents: Today’s the day to get your pet up to date on their vaccines and microchipped FOR FREE! 💉🆓

Tuesday, September 1st from 5pm-7pm at 2802 W. Central Park Ave in Davenport!

🩺 FREE combo vaccines (DAPPv for dogs and FVRCP for cats), rabies vaccines and microchips for Scott County residents

👉🏻 Residents that live outside of Scott County may still purchase a microchip for $10, rabies vaccine for $10, and/or a combo vaccine for $10

🚨 Dogs must be leashed* (retractable leashes not permitted) and cats must be in carriers.

P.S. If your dog does not do well in crowds or near other dogs, leave them in the running vehicle WITH another person, one person wait in line as usual, and when you get to the front let them know it will be easiest for the veterinarian to come to the vehicle.

P. P. S. The line usually stops growing around 6pm, so if your dog would do better without the large crowds, arriving later into the event usually is easier for you!

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Pups and Pints at Pour Bros Taproom on Sunday and helped raise over $2,000 for pets in our shelter! That means we can say “yes” to major medical needs so they get the second chance they deserve!

It was a great afternoon with wonderful vendors, great food, cold brews, and CUTE DOGS 🐶

We hope to see you there next year, too! Cheers! 🍻 🐾
