We've had many people request nose work classes and we aim to please so here it is!

The sport of Nose Work is based on dogs being able to detect a wide variety of scents. In Nose Work, dogs search for cotton swabs (that are in containers) saturated with essential oils such as Birch, Anise, and Clove. Once the dogs are taught to identify the scent, the containers are hidden out of sight in a pre-determined search area and the dog has to find them. Teamwork is necessary: when the dog finds the scent, she has to communicate the find to the handler.

Auggie and Paul are all ready to start the AKC STAR Puppy Class starting next Tuesday, January 14th! The STAR puppy class is a great start for puppies aged 8 weeks to 5 months to learn obedience and to socialize/play with other puppies. We work on the basic commands, sit, down, stay, coming when called, and walking on leash with distractions, distance, and duration. S.T.A.R. stands for Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsibility. The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program is a program that is more than just basic obedience such as sit, down, stay, coming when called, and walking on leash. The program also focuses on you being a responsible owner. It is designed to make your pup a great puppy, beyond basic obedience, and helps you become a great owner. Not only will this create a better relationship with you and your pup, but your time together will be much more enjoyable. This program is for puppies between the ages of 8 weeks and 5 months old.
