Several people have asked me lately what they should be doing every time they ride, how long they should ride, and what a good outline of a ride looks like. I finally got time to sit down and write about it!

Often I am asked how long you should ride for. Generally I ride for 45 minutes to an hour. But in my opinion, I don't think it really matters how long you ride. What is important is that when you get off your horse, they are a better horse than when you got on. Not necessarily better than they were....

5 Harsh Truths About Riding Horses
1. Horses aren’t machines. They are living beings that have a mind of their own.
2. There is always someone you can learn something from and there is always room for improvement.
3. If your horse doesn’t want to be with you, there’s a reason. If they have anxiety, there’s a reason.
4. A nice trained horse takes time, patience, and years of experience.
5. YOU set your limitations. When you quit learning, you just set your limits.

Here is a before and after of our forage based diet. The first picture is from August 2024 when Wrangler was still on grain. The second picture is from May 2025. He turned from yellow to gold, has a shinier mane and tail, and the strongest hooves he’s ever had and hasn’t had a drop of grain in 10 months.

Horses need forage👏, vitamins/minerals👏, and a source of fat. 👏

We are in no way affiliated with the products we use, just really excited to share our results and love helping other people with their horses.

A typical diet at our barn consists of
•2% of their body weight in alfalfa/orchard hay
•soaked alfalfa pellets
•Vermont Blend
•extra salt
•some of them get flax seed or chia seed as a source of fat

We also replaced all the expensive joint supplements with inactive ingredients in them with pure ingredients off bulk supplements. And guess what? It’s cheaper!🤯
