FDA ADVISORY: The U.S. FDA is cautioning pet owners that eight samples of Raaw Energy dog food have tested positive for one or more types of pathogenic (harmful) bacteria, specifically: Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes), Salmonella, and Campylobacter jejuni. One sample also contained Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157 bacteria, which may be harmful.

Raaw Energy dog food is ordered via the firm’s website and picked up in person by customers. The products are packaged in either 2-pound or 5-pound clear plastic tubes sealed on each end with a metal clip. Products are sold frozen in brown cardboard boxes containing 10 clear plastic tubes. The cardboard boxes have white stick-on labels identifying the product flavor, ingredients, and date code.

Because Raaw Energy products aren’t labeled with lot codes, different batches of product are distinguishable by a date code (date of manufacture) printed on white stickers on both the individual plastic tubes and the brown cardboard box. MORE: https://bit.ly/4qGLcGA

According to the recall announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the product was distributed to pet stores in 14 states in the U.S., and in the Province of Ontario, Canada.

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is reminding Illinoisans to take appropriate precautions against tick bites after an Illinois resident became seriously ill with Powassan – a tickborne illness that had not previously been detected in this state. IDPH and the local health department are currently investigating whether the resident was exposed to the illness through a tick bite here in Illinois or in a different state. IDPH says the case serves as a reminder to protect oneself against any and all illnesses associated with ticks.

Spring is here! And with that comes a warning about Leptospirosis, a disease caused by infection with Leptospira bacteria.

All dogs are at risk of leptospirosis, regardless of age, breed, lifestyle, geographic location, time of year, and other factors. The following situations can increase that risk:

➡Exposure to or drinking from slow-moving or stagnant water sources, like ponds, rivers, lakes, or streams
➡ Roaming on rural properties (because of exposure to potentially infected wildlife or farm animals or urine-contaminated water sources)
➡ Exposure to wild animals (especially rodents) or farm animals, even if in the backyard
➡ Contact with other dogs (such as in urban areas, dog parks, or boarding or training facilities)

RECALL ALERT - Wild Coast Raw is recalling lots of frozen Boneless Free Range Chicken Formula raw pet food for cats because it has the potential to be contaminated with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1 also known as bird flu. H5N1 can be transmitted to animals eating contaminated product.

The product, 16oz and 24oz frozen Boneless Free Range Chicken Formula raw pet food for cats, was distributed to pet food retailers in Washington State and Oregon. The product is frozen in a small round white plastic container with a green label.

The affected lots are identified by a sticker on the lid with a number of #22660, #22653, #22641, #22639, #22672 and #22664 with a Best Buy date of 12/25. The recall is widened to include any raw material sharing similar production dates and lot codes as #22660 and #22664. These two lot codes were included in the WSDA’s public health alert on 2/14.
