About Us

Opening a veterinary practice in the Bitterroot Valley has been a long time dream of Dr. Tom and Barbara Parell and it came to fruition on February 3, 2020! Dr. Tom (as clients call him) has been a veterinarian for nearly 40 years and has three successful small animal practices in the Indianapolis, Indiana area. We are here to provide cutting edge, compassionate veterinary care for your beloved pets. While we mostly treat dogs & cats, he has been known to treat the occasional pocket pet or farm animal. DR. TOM’s BIO: Dr. Tom Parell (also known to his clients as “Doc Tom”) established his first of four veterinary practices in 1993, and he is now the primary veterinarian at our DARBY, MONTANA location.

He was born and raised in Newark, NJ and attended St. Benedict’s Prep School, following the footsteps of his three older brothers. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Villanova University & Dickinson College with a major in psychology and a minor in chemistry. It was after spending a day in a local veterinary clinic that he fell in love with veterinary medicine, which led him to earn his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1981. Dr. Parell then went on to earn his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania - a school whose MBA program has been ranked No. 1 in the world.

He is a member of a number of veterinary associations including the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA), the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and the Montana Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA).

Fittingly, Dr. Parell met his wife, Barbara, in a veterinary office before working together on a pig farming project.. They have 5 children - one is veterinarian and another currently in vet school - and they split their time between Indiana and Montana where they can fish, ski, enjoy photography, hike, and Dr. Parell can practice flying. Now that their children are grown, Dr. Parell and Barbara share their home with their three dogs, Alba (Bull Terrier), Trapper (Hungarian Vizsla), and Scout (German Shepherd).
