A small puppy was found tied to a shopping cart behind a store. Someone had poisoned him, and he was barely alive. His tiny body was weak, and he could hardly move or lift his head.

What rescuers didn’t realize at that moment was that this little puppy was a black Pitbull who would one day change the lives of an entire police department.

A nearby police officer discovered the struggling puppy while on patrol. When he saw the little dog fighting to breathe, he immediately untied him and rushed him straight to a veterinary clinic. The situation was critical. The vet worked quickly to stabilize him, but the tiny Pitbull was still incredibly weak. No one knew if he would make it through the night.

The officer couldn’t bring himself to leave.

Instead, he stayed right there beside the puppy all night long, softly talking to him and keeping him warm. Every few minutes he checked to make sure the little dog was still breathing. It was a long and quiet night filled with uncertainty.

Then early the next morning, something remarkable happened.

The puppy slowly opened his eyes.

He looked up at the officer who had refused to leave his side… and gently lifted one tiny paw, placing it on the officer’s hand. It was such a small moment, but it meant everything.

The little Pitbull was still fighting.

At the station, the officers first named him Sky — hoping he would rise above the pain and cruelty he had experienced.

Over the next three months, Sky slowly began to heal. With proper food, medical care, and the constant love of the officers who visited him every day, the frightened puppy started to transform. His strength returned. His playful personality began to shine. And slowly but surely, he started trusting people again.

When he finally came back to the police station, everyone could see the difference.

The once fragile puppy was now a strong, blue-grey Pitbull with bright eyes, a wagging tail, and a heart full of love.

That’s when the officers gave him a new name — Roger.

A name that symbolized his second chance at life.

At first, the department considered training Roger to become a police K9. But it didn’t take long for them to realize that Roger had a very different kind of gift.

Roger had a calm, gentle soul.

Whenever an officer was dealing with a stressful day, Roger would quietly walk over and sit beside them. No barking. No attention-seeking. Just quiet comfort.

And somehow… it always helped.

So instead of becoming a traditional K9 officer, Roger became something even more special — the station’s therapy dog.

Today, Roger walks the halls of the police department greeting officers with a wagging tail and a happy smile. After long shifts and difficult calls, many officers say Roger is the one who helps lift their spirits the most.

The tiny Pitbull who was once left behind a store, tied to a cart and fighting for his life… is now one of the most loved members of the entire department.

Roger’s story is proof that kindness can save a life.

And sometimes, the life you save ends up healing yours too. 🐾❤️

😸My name is Radar. His East County Animal Shelter ID # is 81985. Radar's adoption fee is $35, plus the cost of his neuter surgery.

😸Radar is a male Domestic Shorthair kitty. He was left in front of our shelter on 5/29/24. He hasn't been reclaimed by his previous person, so he's now looking for a new home!

😸Radar has been vaccinated, and will be neutered and microchipped before going to his new home.
