In an effort to increase soil diversity, improve nutrient cycling, and provide my cows with more quality forage to graze throughout the winter, we seeded cover crops yesterday.

To get a jump on the growing season, I decided to try drone seeding on a larger scale. I did a small test last year and was really pleased with the results, so this year we’re putting it to the test across 240 acres.

I’ll still be utilizing my drill in seeding some cover crops, but drone seeding gives us another tool and serves as a hedge against an early frost. Something that has bitten me a few times in years past.

Really excited to see how this mix performs and, more importantly, what it can do for the soil and the cows. Always looking for ways to improve the ground while putting more grazing days in front of the herd.

Implanted twenty embryos in this set of recipients yesterday.

It’s always exciting to think about the potential of new matings and what they can contribute to the future of the program. Every flush is a chance to build on generations of proven genetics while creating something new.

The possibilities are endless, and it’s hard not to let your mind wander to what these calves could become. Grateful to catch a cool off for them to have the best chance possible!

Blessed to live in the land of the free because of the brave. As we celebrate 250 years of freedom, we remember the trials, hardships, and sacrifices made by so many to secure and preserve the liberties we enjoy today.

Thank you to the courageous men and women of our Armed Forces past and present for your service, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to defending our nation.

We would like to sincerely thank all of the buyers and bidders in our sale. We truly appreciate your support and confidence in our program. We’re looking forward to seeing how the bulls go to work for you.

We’re already making plans for next year’s sale and are excited about what’s coming. We’ll be back in Yankton with a set of bulls that we believe will prove to be very exciting. There will be a couple new sire groups but a headline will be the first son’s of Sinclair Legend L504 to be offered.

Sale day is tomorrow at Stockmen’s Livestock in Yankton, Sd at 11 am central time. Attached is the supplement sheet. The sale will be broadcasted under Stockmen’s Livestock on DV Auction and Cattle USA. You will need to get Stockmen’s approval to bid tomorrow. If you have any problems please let us know as soon as possible, earlier the better. Please not 5 minutes before sale time at 11 am, as it puts everyone in a tough spot. If you arent comfortable using the internet to bid, myself or Robert will be happy to hold your bid confidentially or connect you to a Stockmen’s rep to handle your bid. Sale day is closing in fast! A bull that has me excited in this offering is one that I named in tribute to a good friend and mentor, Bill Doyle. He is lot 408M, a son of one of Bill’s finest creations Hills Emulation D501. This is the first D501 son I have sold and his paternal sisters are looking very promising. The dam behind D501 was Bill’s pick of Hugh Ingalls calf crop in 2004. She was one of the true foundation cows in Bill’s program and never missed. Being sired by E31 is just icing on the cake.
The dam behind this bull is one that is easy to find in the pasture. He will make daughters the same way. He is also heifer safe and would be a great calving ease specialist for your replacement heifers. Attached is a video I took of her the other day along with a link to view his video.
