DID YOU KNOW??? Acupressure and Massage Therapy can help your horse stay healthy during cold temperatures and drastic weather changes!

Massage Therapy can help keep your horse’s muscles loose and flexible, which can make your horse more comfortable and help to avoid injury.

Acupressure can help boost your horse’s immune system, keep him hydrated, relieve arthritis pain, reduce inflammation, and help his body adjust to drastic changes in temperature. Acupressure can help keep digestion moving smoothly, improving both absorption of nutrients and proper evacuation. Acupressure can also improve vascular circulation and nourish the blood.

The Bladder Meridian is especially important, as it is weakest during this time of year. The Bladder Meridian is the longest of all the Meridians, with 67 points on it! The Bladder Meridian controls urination, supports the skeleton and helps with fearful behavior. Blockages in the Bladder Meridian can often mimic back soreness. Has your horse experienced any stocking up in their legs over the last 2 weeks?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, stocking up is considered a damp stagnation, where fluid gets stuck in one place.

According to Dr Angie Lipson, β€œDampness in the body can manifest as a concentrated pain. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, arthritis is categorized as a damp pain because it stays in one place and is aggravated by changing temperatures and environmental factors.”

EquiZen can use several Acupressure points on the Stomach, Spleen, Kidney and Bladder Meridians to help move that damp stagnation.

My own horse had puffy hind fetlocks just a few days ago. 24 hours after her Acupressure & Massage session, the swelling was gone and she was as good as new.

Of course, if your horse’s swelling is severe, or it is accompanied by a fever, call your veterinarian right away, as this could indicate a more serious condition. EquiZen can offer supportive care after veterinary treatment.

People often ask me, "How often should I schedule an Acupressure and Massage Therapy session for my horse?" πŸ“†

My answer is........... it depends πŸ€” Some horses need to be seen more frequently if they are in heavy training, recovering from an illness or injury, or if there are drastic changes or extremes in weather or environment.

Other horses do just fine with a maintenance schedule.

For example, horses with a packed competition schedule might be seen for a prep session before the show, as well as a recovery session after the show, especially if they are trailering a long distance.

The majority of horses I work on are able to stick to a once-a-month schedule. Other horses do better with every 3 weeks, while others can be seen every 6 weeks.

Some horses even get bodywork done once a week!!!!!!!! Ok, that's my own horse, but she's a little spoiled πŸ˜‰

Winter is the season when the Kidney and Bladder Meridians are at their weakest. These Meridians, in addition to filtration and urination, also have control of the blood and the skeleton. This is the time of year when the horse's body can experience:

1) Aching bones and/or joint pain
2) A buildup of toxins and waste products which can cause cramping and muscle soreness
3) Stiffness in the back, hips and hind legs
4) Decreased circulation and/or edema
5) Infection, particularly in the kidneys, bladder or teeth
6) An increase in spooky or fearful behavior

Riding in cold temperatures when your horse's muscles are stiff can also increase the risk of injury.

I think the flies are worse now than they were this summer 😝😝😝

I am selling the last of my stock of herbal fly spray.

This formula contains Cedarwood, Citronella, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Pennyroyal, Peppermint and Tea Tree Oil.

This comes in a 4 oz concentrate that makes 2 full size 32 oz bottles of fly spray.

Only $30 each, which brings the price of a full size bottle of fly spray down to only $15!!! Where else can you find fly spray that really works for only $15 a bottle?!?!?!

Can ship anywhere with Venmo payment. DM me for details, or text 864-276-8536.

I know it's not β€œofficially” Fall for a few more weeks, but I bet at least one of you is breaking out the Pumpkin Spice Latte already! β˜•πŸŽƒπŸ‚

The season of Fall can present some unique challenges for our horses. This is the time of year when they are pooling all their reserves in preparation for winter, due to the cooler temperatures and shorter daylight hours.

The season of Fall is when the Lung and Large Intestine Meridians are at their weakest. This is why we see an increase in colds, flus and allergies this time of year, in both horses and people.

Inhaled allergens can affect the liver's ability to process proteins and filter toxins efficiently.

Horses can also suffer from digestive imbalance (colic season, anyone?), skin issues (think rain rot and scratches), poor circulation and a weakened immune system during the Fall season.

Acupressure on the Lung and Large Intestine Meridians can help keep your horse's body healthy and functioning at optimum level.

This unique modality can also flush residue left behind in your horse's system from Fall vaccinations, which could otherwise settle in the muscle tissue and cause tightness, cramping or decreased flexibility.
