News like this reminds us that pet health recommendations are often based on possibilities we don’t think about.

Many cat owners assume that living indoors means their pet is completely protected from wildlife. While indoor cats are generally at much lower risk, unexpected encounters can still happen.

That’s one reason your veterinarian may recommend keeping your cat’s rabies vaccination current, even if they rarely or never go outside. Vaccination helps protect your pet and plays an important role in safeguarding public health.

🐾 Prevention is always easier than treatment.

Two adorable Papillons stopped by to brighten our day! 🐾💛

Known for their signature “butterfly ears,” Papillons are intelligent, energetic, and full of personality. Their name actually comes from the French word for “butterfly.” 🦋

It was a pleasure meeting these sweet pups, and we loved having them visit us at Daly City Pet Hospital!

Summer adventures are better when your pet is protected.

Whether you’re hiking local trails, visiting the beach, or enjoying time in the backyard, fleas and ticks become more active during the warmer months. These parasites can cause discomfort and may carry diseases that affect both dogs and cats.

In the Bay Area, fleas and ticks can remain active throughout much of the year, making year-round prevention an important part of keeping your pet healthy.

If you have questions about flea and tick protection, we’re here to help.

Your pet’s water bowl may look clean, but bacteria can begin building up sooner than you think.

A layer of bacteria called biofilm can begin forming in as little as 24–48 hours, which is why daily cleaning is an important part of your pet’s routine.

Here are a few simple habits to keep in mind:
🐾 Wash your pet’s water bowl every day with hot, soapy water.
🐾 Refill it with fresh, clean water daily.
🐾 Stainless steel and ceramic bowls are often easier to keep clean than plastic.

Small daily habits can make a big difference in supporting your pet’s health and hydration.

Microchips are among the most effective forms of permanent identification, but many misconceptions persist about how they work. A microchip isn’t a GPS tracker, and it’s only effective if your contact information is registered and kept up to date.

Remember these simple tips:
✔️ Register your pet’s microchip.
✔️ Update your contact information if you move or change phone numbers.
✔️ Keep a collar with a current ID tag on your pet.
✔️ Keep recent photos of your pet in case they’re ever lost.

Not sure if your pet’s microchip is registered or up to date? Our team can help verify your information and answer any questions.

Parvovirus is one of the most serious viral diseases affecting puppies, but it is also preventable through proper vaccination.

This sweet puppy recently tested positive for parvovirus, and our team was able to begin treatment immediately after confirming the diagnosis.

Parvovirus attacks the intestinal tract and immune system, often causing:
🐾 Severe vomiting
🐾 Bloody diarrhea
🐾 Lethargy
🐾 Loss of appetite
🐾 Dehydration

The virus spreads easily through contaminated environments and can survive for months, making young and unvaccinated puppies especially vulnerable.

If your puppy develops any of these signs, seek veterinary care immediately. Early diagnosis and treatment can significantly improve the chances of recovery.

Let’s continue protecting our puppies through timely vaccinations, good hygiene, and prompt veterinary care. ❤️
