Effective June 2, Dallas Animal Services (DAS) will temporarily pause the acceptance of new owner surrender appointment requests for approximately 3–4 weeks. This step is part of a larger effort to ensure DAS can provide the best possible care for animals in need.
This pause will allow DAS to implement a triage-based appointment system, focusing on urgency and critical need. Emergency cases will continue to be served without interruption. DAS is also partnering with a network of local organizations to provide rehoming support and resources during this period.
Importantly, all appointments currently scheduled through August will still be honored. DAS will also maintain a waitlist for those currently working through the booking process to fill in for cancellations and no-shows, ensuring that we continue to accommodate as many animals as possible.
This temporary adjustment is part of DAS’s ongoing efforts to stabilize operations amid sustained high intake pressure and to ensure responsible resource allocation. The new triage approach will allow DAS to manage its open intake process more effectively, address space capacity concerns, and increase service delivery to those with the most critical needs.
We appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation as we implement these changes. Together, we can continue to provide compassionate care for Dallas’ animals.
