Maddie the Pit Bull

Maddie the Pit Bull Maddie and her humans advocate for pit bulls by sharing their adventures online and demonstrating the many virtues of this often misunderstood breed.

Madeline is a super sweet pit bull terrier who was thought to be heartworm positive and was rescued from the euthanasia list at the Chuck Silcox Animal Shelter in Fort Worth, TX. She was at the shelter for a very long time, waiting and waiting for someone to come save her and bring her home with them. She was a delight to the shelter volunteers and loved by all. Her health condition became a death

sentence when the shelter reached capacity. She was set to die May 18th, but somehow made it to see another day. A wonderful rescuer named Molly swooped in and took her home as a foster. Maddie loved spending time with Molly and her forever and foster doggies, but longed for a home of her own. The stigma of "pit bull" left her with few serious admirers, until one day she met a lonely girl suffering from severe heartbreak. Maddie and the girl were a perfect match. The girl really needed a hug and some cheering up, and those just happened to be Maddie's specialties. Maddie took good care of the girl for two whole weeks until the worst heartache was over-- they slept, ate, and watched TV together, went on walks, wrestled, and played. The girl realized that Maddie filled a big hole in her life-- the girl anxiously waited until 5:00 p.m. each day to come home to a cuddly, drooly, 54 pound pit bull who had become her new best friend. Maddie officially found her forever home on June 3, 2013 with Bren, and as of June 19, 2013, she tested heartworm NEGATIVE after zero treatment. The vet explained that either the original test was a false positive, or whatever parasites were present at the time of the original test had been fought off by her immune system. What a miracle! If Molly and the shelter volunteers had not been full of such abundant compassion, Madeline would be long dead. Maddie continues to give back the love she has received by giving hugs, snuggles, and kisses to all. She has become an excellent foster sister, and helps Bren advocate for her breed by being the star of this page, attending volunteer events, and being sweet to everyone she meets. This page was originally created by shelter volunteers to find sweet Maddie a forever home, and is now maintained by her new human, Bren. Maddie's page now demonstrates the many virtues of bully breeds and works to stop breed discrimination and abuse.

This happens all over the US, hence the reason Just Save the Dog chose this photo for their post.

Please read the information they have provided below for reporting cruelty and abuse below.

(This photo is not an active Dallas cruelty case. The photo is from South Carolina, the abuser was sentenced to 5 years, and the dog Caitlyn was adopted.)

ANIMAL ADVOCATES:
Dallas, TX

Recently, many have been witness to animal abuse in progress. (drugging a dog, rubber banding a snout, beating, cruel confinement, burning).

If you are witness to animal abuse in progress, CALL 911. Be FIRM with the 911 operator and clearly state that animal abuse is in progress. Know the location before you call.

If you are at a safe distance and can take video or photo without being noticed, please do so.

If the suspect leaves before police arrive, be prepared to provide a detailed WRITTEN statement to the officers. The officers should invite you to go to a police substation and submit a written affidavit. You will want to include, date, time, location, description of the dog, description of the perpetrator and a description of what was done to the dog. If you can find out the suspects name, license plate number or address, that will be very helpful.

If police do not respond, please prepare your written statement anyway and message Just Save the Dog. We can help connect you to the proper authorities.

It is not enough to post information to Facebook. Police are not monitoring facebook and will not respond to your post, nor will your post be used as evidence of a crime. You must go through proper reporting channels.

YOU are the only person who can stop the suffering and pain of animals when you witness abuse. Use the authorities, not the advocates, to investigate, arrest and prosecute. Where you are not getting proper help, let us know.
