Poor Betty was tacked by a stray cat today. Heard her squawking (nothing out of the ordinary), so I went outside to tell her to shut up. All the girls came to the door as usual, and Betty is missing half the feathers on her back! I walked around to find the feathers and saw a cat hanging out under a shrub. Then noticed the tire dirt bath was FULL of feathers. Poor girl! The plucking must have hurt, but she doesn't seem any worse for wear. Just a little bald.

Broody Hazel doesn't like her new Chicken Jail, even though it's a palace compared to a dog crate in the garage! You can see her (left side of the yard by the tree) just pacing in her little coop, hatching an escape plan. Sorry, sister. No babies for you. (Forgive the distant video- it's from the ChickenCam in the kitchen window)

A record week with 32 eggs (avg 6.4 eggs per hen)! Hazel isn't broody, the weather is good. Production reflects conditions and overall health. BOOM.

Whew! What a week. Mom is visiting, so we have been working super hard to get the yard ready for the A Peep at the Coops: The Urban Coop Tour this weekend! We finished all the hard stuff a day ahead of schedule, so tomorrow we rest!
