Liberty Ranch Canine

Liberty Ranch Canine Liberty Ranch Canine provides Dog Training and Handler Training for you and your canine companion.

Brian VanDePutte has over 15 years of canine training and handling experience. Starting with 5 years of active duty with the United States Marine Corps. During that time he participated in the Military Police Canine Handler’s course and later went on to attend the Department of Defense (DOD) Specialized Search Dog Course. His time in the military greatly benefited his knowledge of canines. After a

ctive duty Brian went on to train canines for a company contracted to provide IED Detection Dogs for the Marine Corps. Not only providing superior canines but training the marines who would handle them on the battlefield. He then worked with a non-profit, H4HUS, that provides veterans with Equine and Canine assisted therapy. He developed the Canine Handling Immersion Program which helps veterans work through issues using canines. Brian has continued an active role in sharing his canine knowledge with both Military and Civilians to help everyone have a better relationship with their furry companions. There are so many ways to have a great relationship with your dog from working with them on basic obedience, which in turn builds trust, and respect, to fun activities like throwing a Frisbee, scent detection activities, and taking them through fun obstacles like in a canine agility course. In general, if you give your dog some mental stimulation through task training and overcoming challenging situations, your dog will start to work to please you in anticipation of their next reward instead of trying to assert their dominance and rule the roost.

Our 4-Week Board & Train program is designed to take obedience beyond the basics and into the real world. Over the course of training, dogs practice holding long durations in their positions, even around distractions, and receive consistent exposure to public outings where reliability truly matters.

Nick, one of our current participants, is excelling in the program. His ability to maintain focus and perform with confidence in busy environments highlights the value of structured, consistent training.

“Small lessons today, a well-mannered dog tomorrow.”

A reminder that puppy training is built on consistent, bite-sized steps. Young puppies have short attention spans, so teaching them in simple, manageable moments not only keeps them engaged but also sets a solid foundation for lifelong habits. Each positive interaction—whether it’s practicing “sit,” rewarding calm behavior, or guiding them through a new experience—shapes the way they’ll respond as adults. By focusing on patience, gentle guidance, and repetition now, you’re not just training a puppy—you’re raising a confident, well-mannered companion for years to come.

“In the stillness of ‘bed,’ a dog learns the power of focus and the beauty of rest.”

The “bed” command is a foundational cue that teaches your dog to go to a specific spot, such as an elevated bed or mat, and remain there for a duration of time. It’s an excellent tool for managing behavior in busy households, helping dogs settle during mealtimes, when guests arrive, or during training sessions. By giving your dog a clear and consistent place to relax, the “bed” command promotes calmness, structure, and better impulse control.

One of the most rewarding parts of being a dog trainer is getting to watch our clients grow up—both the dogs and their humans. From the wobbly, curious puppy who can’t sit still to the confident, well-mannered dog who walks proudly by their owner’s side, every stage is a milestone. We get to witness their first breakthroughs, their challenges, their progress, and eventually their success. It’s more than training—it’s building a relationship and being part of a journey. Watching a once-unruly pup turn into a trusted companion never gets old, and knowing we played a part in that transformation is what makes this job so special.
