Pupdate!!!

Shadow is still chilling with us, hoping for his forever home. He's starting to show more of his personality, and y'all....he's such a love bug.

We have a morning ritual now. After we get the kids situated for school, I go into the garage and sit down and he and I snuggle up on the couch for a second, we say good morning to each other, he gives me kisses, and then when he's done with the snuggles he lays down at my feet until I get up again. When I go inside to work or shower or run errands it takes about 5 minutes before he starts howling to let us know that he's been left alone and he's not happy about it.

Now that he's seen consistency with us coming back when we leave, the separation anxiety and the destruction that comes along with it seems to have eased up quite a bit. Now, if he makes any kind of mess, it's typically because he has polished off his remaining food and is now on the prowl for anything that smells edible. He has an impressive sniffer.

He appears to be completely house trained minus the tendency to mark. He's only had a couple small accidents when circumstances required us to leave him longer than he should have been left. He doesn't typically jump but he will paw at you for attention. Still shows comprehension and response to the commands to sit and to shake. We are learning lay down and stay. He's good on the leash, occasionally pulling, but if you rear him back gently he will continue walking beside you without pulling until he forgets again. I've never had to struggle with him during a walk.

Still no barks. I honestly don't know if he even knows how to bark. He has a playful rumble that is not quite a growl, a whine, and of course that very wolfish howl of his that you've seen in prior posts. We suspect he might be a digger but we haven't given him free reign of the backyard because of our dogs. He definitely needs a tall fence or a long lead to run on to prevent him from escaping. He is definitely a well-honed escape artist.

If you or anybody you know is interested in fostering or adopting Shadow please reach out via messages here or by commenting on one of the posts. We still need to find Shadow a loving long-term home where he can truly become part of the pack he so desperately craves. Please help us find that home for him.

Pupdate: Day Nine

We've been a little quiet lately, but only because there's been no news.

Tomorrow marks 10 days. We've done everything we can think of to find Shadow's owners, but we've received no contacts.

Now we transition to finding Shadow a new home. Here are the deets:

Age unknown, still has puppy teeth.

LARGE dog. Will get larger.

Gentle, smart, doesn't bark, but HOWLS like a werewolf during the full moon.

INTACT.

Good with kids, but will try to dominate if not monitored. Seems to be interested in cats, but not aggressive.

He DOES mark. He seems to be at least partially house trained, but he has marked a few things.

Separation anxiety that seems to decrease over time, but will probably flare up in a good home.

No worms visible in p**p, but we have not had him vetted to ensure his health.

Comes with remaining treats, harness, chain collar, and leash.

We will require a rehoming fee, to limit the risk of Shadow going to a bad fit.

Must be willing to meet Shadow at a neutral location with all household members, to gauge compatibility. Masks WILL be required.

Shadow is located in Plano, Tx. Please share, and if interested, please comment on this post.

Pupdate: Day 6

Closing in on a week, and tonight our friend Brent got to hear Shadow howl. Still no word from a potential owner, but we're holding out hope a little longer before we reach out to start the rehoming process.

Shadow snuck into the house tonight and tried to play tag with one of his kitty foster brothers. He was not amused when he asked him to go back to his safe space, away from the kitties.

Enjoy the howl, friends. ☺️

Pupdate: Day 5

Shadow had a good day yesterday. He got several walks (he does great on a leash!!), and finally p**ped! Shadow is definitely a pack dog. He wants to be around others as much as possible. He'll howl if left alone too long, and it's adorable, but LOUD. He would probably do well with his own ESA for when the humans are out

We've discovered he's good with kids, not at all aggressive, but he's so young he doesn't realize his own size/strength, so he definitely needs monitoring to stay in line there.

Also! Exciting news! We may have a lead on his owners. A large black dog escaped a customer's car at Dutch Bros on Friday, right around the time Shadow showed up on our porch. Given that we're a 5ish minute walk from there, I'm hoping it's not a mere coincidence.

We talked to the crew at DB and they've taken down our info. I'm hoping they're able to connect with the family who lost their dog, so we can see if it's Shadow.

Pupdate: Day Four

Well, we seem to have found the flaw in Shadow. Guess it couldn't all be good, huh? Along with being incredibly smart, Shadow is also apparently high anxiety. He very much dislikes being left alone, and if left alone for too long may self-destruct. And, in the process of that self-destruction he may also destroy anything not tied down or built into the home. RIP blinds in the laundry room.

So, yeah, if we don't find his owners whoever takes this handsome guy is in for quite an undertaking, because he desperately needs training. And if I'm honest, I'm about 99% sure he'd Houdini himself out of any kennel and record time.

We also learned through a cursory examination by our neighbor's partner that shadow is much younger than we expected, and not fully grown. He is already massive, at least 80 to 90 lb. And if he's going to get bigger, that means he's going to be very expensive and we suspect typical fences will not hold him in.

But it's not all bad news. We also learned that he will not kill cats. He does like to chase after them but we're not sure if it's a prey drive thing or a hey come play with me I need attention I'm lonely I'm lonely oh dear God I'm so lonely kind of thing. We still have an introduced him to the dogs.

Tomorrow, Shadow may go to a home in McKinney. This would be his potential forever home if we are unable to find his family and if they're able to handle his special kind of crazy. Hopefully, we'll still be passing along updates for a while.

Pupdate: day 3

Shadow is SMART. He can carry a bowl in his mouth without spilling, and he's already responding to his temporary name.

He doesn't know any commands, but we're going to work on that.

He's not food aggressive, and he thinks kids are just other puppies to play with.

He appears to be at least partial house-trained, too.

His personality is really starting to shine, and he's quite literally the sweetest boy.

Still no connections with potential owners, and we're not sure how long we'll hold him before we start trying to find him a new, awesome family that he deserves, but we'll keep fostering him for now.

Help spread the word so that we can make sure if the best possible outcome for Shadow.

Welcome friends! If you've been invited to like this page it is because perhaps you know somebody in Plano who may know who this pup belongs to. He came into our yard wearing his harness and leash during the morning hours of September 3rd. We were able to gain his trust and and get him inside into safety from the weather.

We took him to the Plano animal shelter who checked him for a microchip. None was detected. We also checked his harness, collar, and leash for any tags or information that might identify his owners. There was a nothing. We have posted on next door, registered him with the shelter as a found pet, and now I'm trying to spread the word any other way that I can.

So far, this dog has been nothing but sweet, patient, and mostly quiet. We have discovered that if he is left alone he will howl, and sounds much like a wolf howling at the moon. He loves belly scratches and was hesitant to jump up on the couch and until we put him up there and he realized how comfy it is. He's been great with the boys and very tolerant of their loud behavior and erratic gestures. We have not introduced him to the cats or to our dogs, but when he saw a stray cat during a potty break he had no inclinations to chase or target the cat. He seems to veer away from barking dogs so I suspect he's probably timid with them too.

He is a very large dog. Probably at least as big as Scrappy if not more so. His teeth are fairly clean, his nails are clipped, and his coat is well groomed. He may even have been groomed very recently based on his smell and his coat appearance. Somebody has taken very good care of him, but we don't know who and we would love to get him home to his family if possible. Until then, he will stay with us and we will post updates on how he's doing and any progress we've made to find his owners.

My ask of you is that you like this page and invite friends to like this page so we can spread the word around the Plano area in hopes that his family will see a post or see this page and reach out to us. Any help you guys can provide is greatly appreciated, including sharing posts from this page on your page. In the meantime, please enjoy all of the incoming puppy spam as this dog which we have dubbed Shadow chills with us for the time being.
