Local, sustainable farm Welcome to Canticle Farm!

We are a family run farm and have a market garden, grow fresh flowers and herbs, and raise miniature Nubian dairy goats. We also have an ever growing line of handcrafted soaps, balms and lotions and other body products, many made with our goats milk. We practice sustainable agriculture to produce healthier, hardier livestock and some of the best veggies and fruit you've ever tasted.

A cool front during the Texas summer?! Sounds like a great time to visit the McKinney Farmer's Market! At the Canticle Farm booth we have lots of sustainably grown melons, flowers and veggies. New soap fragrances available this week are Peach Ice Tea, Mai Tai, and Indigenous as well as To***co Flower & Honey back in stock and Abalone Sea. Also back in productIon, our Cowboy Candy-sweet pickled jalapenos, or try our new Hot Cherry Pepper pickles. Finally, Essential Ice is back in stock! If you haven't tried our pain relieving balm stop by and see what it's all about. (Hint: we use it to numb bug bites more than sore muscles this time of year-especially kills chigger itch!). We'll be ready and waiting tomorrow morning from 8-Noon

It's the peak of tomato season and we have some huge beauties for the market this weekend. This was the queen of the pick today, 15 oz, blemish free, and barely fits in my hand. We've added shade cloth over all the tomatoes and peppers and the plants are loving it as are we! We have a lovely mix of sweet and hot peppers, eggplants, cukes, and the flowers are thriving with the extra rain. We'll also have peach, raspberry, and peach Melba jam from our sustainably raised fruit. Be thinking about all those lovely tomatoes dishes; caprese salads, tomato sandwiches, juicy burgers with a fat slice of tangy tomato, or just slice up a plate and eat them with a sprinkle of salt. Farm update, our peaches are coming in and I'm in the kitchen working on our traditional peach jam, but I'm making a small batch of a mystery combo. Anyone want to guess? The Texas Star Hibiscus burst into bloom today, and Farmer Jim's tomatoes are so heavily laden he's reinforcing the trellising. Stop by the market this weekend for vine ripened summer tomatoes!

Ahh mowing....Yes it takes hours, and grasshoppers fly in your face, and you breathe dust and grass bits, hit giant invisible fire ant hills, and it's a given that it's hot in Texas. However, how many farm jobs are there with a set goal, that makes a visible and nutritional difference, and you can see results while you work!? I haven't been able to mow the north 3 acres of our property for months because I can't get the mower across the now swamp that runs through the middle of our place. My sweet neighbor allowed me to take down the fence and come thru his yard so I could finally get it done. Check that off the to-do list!

Finished picking most of the produce for tomorrow and all this rain has really boosted the plants this week! We have our first cucumbers, a beautiful assortment of eggplants, a ton of tomatoes, some fabulous cabbage, raspberries, and our farm fresh flowers available this Saturday from 8-Noon at the McKinney Farmer's Market! It's also our Farm, Family, Fun day and Sara will have some baby goats at the market to meet as well as members of her FFA chapter with show rabbits and chickens. Stop by their booths (behind the Canticle Farm booth) to talk about how kids can get involved in agriculture! See you tomorrow!

It feels like summer and nows a great time to make the McKinney Farmer's Market part of your summer Saturday routine. Today at the Canticle Farm booth we have our first raspberries, fresh cut flowers, tomatoes, eggplant and raspberry jam. It's the first day of the peach season at the McKinney Farmer's Market! Winona Orchards is here with the first peaches of the season and we have our Peach Prosecco soap back in stock. Huge thanks to these two young men who spent their first few days of summer helping to dig the garlic crop up before another rain hit! Last year we lost everything and this year we have twice as much as we've ever planted. The uncertainty of farming... Garlic lovers, the elephant garlic is out of the ground and curing. Share those recipes ! I've been making goat cheese with roasted garlic and basil, yum. Love seeing how healthy the soil is made by using sustainable growing practices. Check out the size of our earth worms!

New product alert McKinney Farmer's Market fans! It's been a long wait, but the first of the garlic has been harvested and is ready. Godfather's Italian is a new variety for us, but it's been growing very happily in our Texas soil. Robust flavor, early maturing, and good-size heads-what's not to like? We will have the last of our fresh beets available and also our pickled beets, while they last. Finally, you asked and we did it-pickled scapes! Crisp, garlicky, vinegary, scape pickles, super unique addition to your charcuterie board or bloody Mary. See you Saturday from 8-Noon at the McKinney Farmer's Market!

It's Mother's Day Sunday and we have you covered at the McKinney Farmer's Market! Stop by tomorrow morning for stress free shopping. At the Canticle Farm booth we have a selection of gift wrapped scented and specialty geraniums, as well as farm-made products to pamper Mom like lotion bars, goat milk soap, clay facial masks and more. It was weaning day for the boys on the farm this week and the pastures are echoing with the bellows of upset moms and kids. We hate to do it, but goats are amazingly reproductive and fertile as early as just over two months old. Boys go to an all male herd with Nana Daisy Mae to babysit and try to teach manners. She was at her wits end this morning with the scrum at the feeders. On the plus side, you get to see all the different moonspot patterns together! If anyone needs a new herdsire or some sweet wethers to keep down the weeds on your place-message me!
