The turkey was coolingβ€”just sittin’ there, boldβ€”
When two Golden Retrievers (both terrible at β€œhold”)
Tip-toed through the kitchen with stealthy precision
On a top-secret holiday snack-snatching mission.

One sniffed the stuffing, one eyed the pie,
Both pretending, of course, that they β€œjust wandered by.”
But when Grandma yelled, β€œSTOP!” they froze on the spot,
Looking shockedβ€”shocked!β€”as if caught in a plot.

At dinner they parked by the table with grace,
Wearing β€œWho, me?” expressions on each furry face.
They scooped up the crumbs like four-legged vacuums,
Then joyfully raced laps through the living room.

By dessert they were snoring, stuffed full to the seamsβ€”
Turkey-filled bellies doing small wiggle dreams.
So here’s to warm noses, soft paws, and wagging cheerβ€”

Our Story

Golden Retriever Rescue of North Texas (GRRNT) was incorporated in 1997 with a mission to rescue, care for, and place in permanent loving homes, Golden Retrievers in need in the North Texas area and to educate the general public about responsible pet ownership as well as the special qualities of the Golden Retriever breed.

We are an all-volunteer rescue organization, with NO paid employees. We do not own nor operate a shelter or kennel space and instead place all of our dogs in loving, volunteer foster homes until the dogs are adopted. Foster families care for the dogs of as if it were their own dog for the period of time it takes to find a permanent home. Many of these dogs have been abused, abandoned, or neglected. Our foster families provide their foster dog with quality dog food, toys, basic training, stability, and, most of all, love. The love they provide is a large part of the therapy the dog needs in order to adapt successfully to his or her new forever home. GRRNT covers all medical expenses for each foster dog.

GRRNT’s Permanent Foster & Hospice Program allows Goldens who are unadoptable due to age or a permanent medical condition to remain with their foster families in their loving homes and under the medical care of GRRNT until they cross the Rainbow Bridge.
