From Concept to Creation—A Culinary Haven Reimagined

Welcome to the heart of the home — where memories are cooked up, laughter echoes, and flavors linger long after the meal has ended. This transformation is crafted for both everyday living and extraordinary gatherings. Whether you’re a culinary enthusiast or love beautiful spaces, this kitchen is sure to inspire dreams.

Every kitchen begins with a story. For this project, the clients envisioned a space that marries sleek, contemporary lines with the warmth and character of classic design. The desire was for a kitchen that would not only function as a practical workspace but also serve as a hub for friends and family. The challenge? To strike a balance between modern minimalism and inviting charm.

The cabinetry is custom-built, featuring slab-style, inset doors with modern, masculine hardware. Attention to detail elevates the ordinary to the extraordinary. In this project, the seamless continuation of the wood grain from one cabinet to the next is exceptional. The inset cabinets offer a tight reveal. These two elements are only noticed when they are done incorrectly, but in this kitchen, they provide a feeling of comfort and sophistication.

Exquisite quartzite with waterfall edges provides ample room for prepping, plating, and sharing meals, while the full-height backsplash draws your focus and adds visual interest. This large central island stands at the core, crowned with pendant lighting and equipped with hidden storage—perfect for casual breakfasts, homework sessions, or evening cocktails with friends.

No kitchen is complete without top-notch appliances, and this project features the best in both form and function. The professional-grade Wolf range and hood cater to serious cooks, while the built-in Subzero wine preservation refrigerator and Cove dishwasher blend effortlessly behind panel-ready doors. A brilliant faucet sits above a deep stainless sink equipped with multiple accessories to handle everything from garden-fresh veggies to stacks of post-dinner plates.

Lighting is the unsung hero of great design. For this kitchen, ambient, task, and accent lighting were layered to ensure every corner feels inviting. Recessed ceiling lights provide overall illumination, while under-cabinet LED strips brighten the counters for chopping and mixing. Over the island, a duo of concrete pendants brings a touch of elegance, casting a gentle glow that sets the scene for any occasion.

Clutter has no place in a dream kitchen. Every inch was maximized with pull-out pantry shelves, deep drawers for pots and pans, and built-in spice racks, keeping essentials within easy reach yet out of sight.

At the heart of this kitchen is the stunning Windsor Brass Cambria countertop and backsplash. Its brass flecks and dynamic movement create a captivating focal point, beautifully accentuated by the Wolf range top and hood. For serious cooks, the layout provides everything at their fingertips, with a Sub-Zero refrigerator flanked by custom cabinets for small appliances, cookbooks, and even holiday storage, complete with convenient charging stations.

Welcoming Guests and Pampering Pets
The design goes beyond just cooking, embracing a warm and inviting atmosphere. Gold fixtures and comfortable island seating encourage lively conversation. The dedicated beverage station is a standout feature, boasting elegant reeded glass doors and shelves that beautifully illuminate treasured mugs and a variety of coffee options. Even the family's "fur baby" is catered to with a dedicated refrigerator drawer for fresh food and treats, as well as a clever toe-kick food and water bowl that tucks away discreetly when guests are present.

Island of Innovation
The island itself is a treasure trove of convenience and innovation. It boasts a microwave drawer, a smart trash drawer with a tucked-away cutting board, and a practical paper towel drawer with additional storage solutions. The farmhouse sink is equipped with a touchless faucet, soap dispenser, disposer air switch, and a glass rinser, all of which feature a convenient roll-out drawer for easy access to essentials. Small Galley Kitchen and Laundry Packs a Punch

A kitchen "packed with organization" is a kitchen that works smarter, not harder. The Bowser kitchen, a testament to meticulous planning, transforms a compact space into a haven of efficiency and organization. A strategic passthrough, carved into the family room wall, floods the kitchen with light and fosters seamless interaction, though it necessitated a clever reconfiguration of the layout. To accommodate this opening, the refrigerator was relocated, optimizing the flow. Cabinets, extending to the ceiling, utilize every inch of vertical space, relegating infrequently used items to the upper reaches, while select cabinets proudly showcase treasured vases.

Below, the lower cabinets are a masterclass in organization. Custom-designed organizers bring order to chaos, with designated spaces for knives, utensils, spices, and vertical storage for cookware, ensuring that everything is within easy reach during culinary endeavors. In the cleaning and prep zones, innovative solutions like integrated trash drawers, tilt-out storage for sponges and brushes, and rollout shelves beneath the sink maximize functionality, keeping essentials hidden yet accessible.

Beyond the kitchen, the laundry and pantry area have been reimagined. A space-saving stackable washer and dryer liberate valuable floor space, allowing for the installation of ample cabinetry above and beside. This transformation provides the homeowners with a newly organized and spacious pantry, making chores and storage a breeze within this previously cramped area. The strategic use of space and thoughtful design choices have transformed this Bowser home into a model of efficient and comfortable living.

Ashmont Kitchen - Optimization Galore

A builder-grade kitchen is filled with ample organization. The impractical pantry was transformed into a pantry cabinet with roll-out drawers, enhancing storage and access to everything inside. The walls surrounding the oven and microwave were removed, and the ovens were relocated with vertical storage above them, creating more space for other cabinets and optimizers. The blind corner features an innovative pull-out cabinet and a blind corner cloud from Rev-a-shelf, which provides access to the previously unused corner space. Two pocket door cabinets were incorporated for small appliance storage, and a beverage center was added for discreet access to frequently used items the homeowners preferred to keep hidden. The pot filler, pull-out spice rack, and pull-out utensil holder with knife storage make the cooktop perfect for any chef, with everything required to create a spectacular meal within arm’s reach. The prep and cleaning stations in the island are optimized with a trash pull-out, a mixer lift, a roll-out under the sink, a tilt-out for dish sponges and wands, and a beautiful panel-ready dishwasher.

This kitchen now offers everything necessary to create a memorable meal and experience for a family.

2025 Design Awards did not disappoint!
Our very own chapter president won an award for his showroom! Paolo Bertazzoni was inducted in to the Hall of Fame. Manuel D. Gutierrez of Kohler was also inducted posthumously. Several amazing kitchen and bath designs stole the show. I got to sit with and catch up with Vivienne Notelovitz of Kitchens Designed by Vivienne in Canyon Lake, my good friend and mentor. Great night!

KBIS 2025 starts tomorrow!

As a member of the council for the NKBA Texas North Plains Chapter and we were in Leader to Leader meeting all day. The initiatives that NKBA is introducing, particularly relating to the skilled workforce shortage, are exciting and I’m proud to be a part of it. The keynote speaker, AJ Paron of SANDOW Design Group, was spectacular with her topic on empathy in design. Each exciting sponsor spoke about their companies and long standing partnerships with NKBA. Thank you Cosentino, Kohler, Miele and Fabuwood for your support!

Happy Thanksgiving! I am so thankful that, as a mom and a veteran, I got to spend Thanksgiving with my 2 sons, one serving in the Navy and one who just finished basic combat training in the Army.
