Did you know? 🤔

The technical term for hair loss on a cat’s ear tips is called pinnal alopecia! “Pinna” refers to the ear flap, so pinnal alopecia simply means hair loss on the ear flap. 🐾

It’s important to always provide us with a thorough history so we can choose the most appropriate diagnostics. In this case, one of our patients was diagnosed with dermatophytosis—better known as ringworm. 🦠

Ringworm is a common fungal infection, and early detection is key to helping your cat recover and preventing spread. It can be very frustrating to treat and is very contagious but treatable. If you notice hair loss or changes in your cat’s skin, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Anytime you find a new cat always keep them separate from your own cats until the new one can be thoroughly examined and tested. Tests should include FeLV/FIV testing, observing skin/coat for parasites and or areas of hair loss, as well as f***l testing to name a few.
