Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁
Ah many of Nativity scenes have had cats curled up in them. …Or cats in the Christmas trees…Bob our beloved manager, who we dearly miss, was one of them. He had climbed into our Mapleshade Christmas tree! Or ….the family pics where the dogs and cats are not so keen to be seen together in the same pic. We still love Christmas time and our beloved fur babies no matter how badly they behave, just remind them Santa’s watching!
Many of us put pretty fences (little free standing little dog fences around our trees. If your tree is near a wall, especially in a corner put a little eye hook in the wall, (great protection for pets and children) attach fish wire from the middle/top of the tree to the eye hook, this will help in protecting tree from toppling and broken ornaments.
Watch for them drinking the water as the tree may dry out faster putting your family at risk for fire, chicken wire placed over the stand may help.
Absolutely DO NOT use tinsel on your tree. Many of pets have ingested it and it can cause a deadly intestinal blockage called an Intussusception, where the small or large intestine folds up on itself. The tinsel my cause this if ingested, as the body tries to move the food through it fold up on itself. It will cause a blockage in the intestines, vomiting, and or bloody/black tar stool. It is considered life threatening.
Even if you don’t have pets do not use as when the tree is thrown outside the wild animals are just as susceptible. Side note…if you ever saw a piece of tinsel or even string coming out of your pets re**al area, do not pull it as you could cause an intussusception as well. Just cut the end and allow it to come out on its own. If your pet is showing signs of illness along with the noticeable tinsel/string then immediately call Mapleshade Animal hospital at 703-670-7668
