This dog suffered a severe degloving injury from a dog bite, with the lower gingiva completely avulsed from the mandible.
The trauma was extensive: the right middle mental neurovascular bundle was fully avulsed. However, because the left middle mental bundle and both rostral bundles remain intact, the tissue still has the blood supply and nerve function necessary for a successful reattachment.
Without these remaining “lifelines,” this would have resulted in the immediate loss of the chin and lower lip.
Surgery like this isn’t just about looks
—it’s about restoring the oral seal so this pup can eat and drink normally again!
