Day 1 is in the books for foundation representatives , and Dr. Kerry Robson. They competed one root canal and one extraction on two patients. We remain thankful to the vets and care staff of Save the Chimps for a smooth first day. Stay tuned for tomorrow!!

The Peter Emily Foundation was pleased to return to the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Indiana for another successful mission. Over the course of the weekend, our volunteer veterinary dentists, human dentists and veterinary technicians treated a cougar, 3 tigers, a leopard, a wolf, a bear, and 5 foxes. Performing several root canals and many extractions, they treated over 40 broken, damaged and painful teeth as well as helping with the stabilization of a fractured leg and an injured tail. Thank you to our amazing team of volunteers, as well as everyone else who made this weekend possible! We also appreciate the University of Illinois anesthesia team for performing excellent and safe anesthesia for all of our patients, who recovered beautifully and were already feeling better by the next day. We look forward to returning to the EFRC again soon! Thank you Steve Holmstrom, Brian Hewitt, Tina Abbatangelo, Thomas Hujer, Trudy Howeter, Jan Bellows, Kris Bannon Klessig, Grace Brown, Kathy Pershing, Toni Nation and Jen Montgomery for all of your time, effort, and expertise this weekend helping these beautiful animals!

January 11th-12th. The first mission of 2025 is in the books. We would like to thank for trusting PEIVDF representatives and with the dental needs of their two resident Tapirs, Tupi and Contessa. It’s an honor to work with such excellent veterinarians, technicians and care staff. ⁣
⁣
Tapirs are large, herbivorous mammals belonging to the family Tapiridae. They are similar in shape to a pig, with a short, prehensile nose trunk. Tapirs inhabit jungle and forest regions of South and Central America and Southeast Asia. They are one of three extant branches of Perissodactyla (odd-toed ungulates), alongside equines and rhinoceroses. Only a single genus, Tapirus, is currently extant. ⁣

The Reid Park Zoo, founded in 1967, is a 24-acre city-owned and -operated nonprofit zoo located within Reid Park in Tucson, Arizona. The zoo features more than 500 animals. It was unofficially established in 1965 by Gene Reid, the parks and recreation director at the time. The zoo receives approximately 500,000 visitors each year. It is accredited and certified with the Association of Zoos & Aquariums. ⁣

“It takes a village (to care for a chimpanzee)”. We remain thankful to nfor their commitment to the foundation and the privilege that they have bestowed upon us to take care of their residents. ⁣

It is evident in every aspect that the care staff, technicians and veterinarians care deeply about the overall well being of their chimpanzees and we care deeply about upholding that level of care. ⁣
⁣
We would like to thank Dr. Kerry Robson and .endo for joining us on this mission and their commitment to learning and participation. We look forward to their continued efforts within the foundation and mission work. ⁣

We would like to thank , .ellegee and care staff for hosting foundation representatives and . Four tigers were treated and a total of five root canals were completed. All patients are recovering and doing well. ⁣

“The vision for In-Sync Exotics started in 1998 and was officially established in 2000. As a non-profit organization we are dedicated to the rescue of neglected, abused and unwanted exotic felines. It is our dream that one day there will be no need for rescue facilities, but until that day happens, we will continue to educate the public on the unique attributes and characteristics of our residents; the realities of irresponsible and/or illegal exotic wild animal ownership and captive breeding; and the need.”

The foundation represented by and embarked on a trip to to assess and treat their resident lion “LJ”. LJ presented with three complicated crown/root fractures. Three root canals were completed without complication and we look forward to seeing LJ happier and healthier. ⁣

Quick mission to to address some immediate needs and evaluate interesting pathology. It’s always a pleasure working with the veterinary team and animal care staff of In-Sync. The foundation is eternally grateful for the opportunity and humbled in the presence of such magnificent animals. 💉💊

⁣As we enter into into the new year the foundation would like to thank all of the sanctuaries, zoos, care staff and veterinarians for their tireless efforts to save the lives of so many exotics animals. ⁣
⁣
The foundation would also like to thank all of our donors and supporters for without you our missions would not be successful. ⁣
⁣
We participated in 13 missions to 9 different sanctuaries in 2023. We treated 98 patients representing 27 different species. We completed 115 extractions, 26 root canals, 36 restorations, 2 biopsies and few gingival procedures. All completed by the hearts, hands and minds of a dedicated few. ⁣
⁣
The foundation has a bright future and we look forward to the challenges of 2024 and hope to exceed 2023 totals in our effort to continue living out the legacy of Dr. Peter Emily. 💉💊
