UPDATE 6/15/26: The pups have names now - Kimber and Staccato! Their adopter sent a video of them playing in their new yard.

What started as a typical Friday evening at Animal ER of Northwest Houston quickly became anything but typical.

A Good Samaritan stopped by with a lost dog they had found and asked if we could scan for a microchip. Unfortunately, no chip was detected. While our team was outside discussing next steps to help reunite the dog with its family, we heard the faint sound of puppies crying.

Trying to figure out where the cries were coming from, as there were no other vehicles nearby, we spotted a box sitting alone in the parking lot.

As we got closer, the cries grew louder.

Inside the box were two small puppies that had been abandoned. The box had been taped shut, and someone had poured water inside, presumably to keep them cool. Despite that effort, the puppies were already panting and showing signs of distress from being confined in the heat.

We immediately brought them inside, where they received food, fresh water, medical attention, and a cool, safe place to rest. Thankfully, after some time, they began to settle down and recover from their ordeal.

Thanks to our team's quick response, compassionate care, and determination to find the right outcome, these sweet pups didn't spend long wondering what came next. In record time, a loving adopter stepped forward and welcomed both puppies into their forever home—together.

A huge shoutout to our incredible team for jumping into action and helping make sure these two puppies got the happy ending they deserved.

And thank you to the Good Samaritan who stopped to help a lost dog. Because of your kindness, two more lives were saved than anyone could have imagined.

Hot weather can be dangerous for pets! Heat stroke in pets is a life-threatening emergency. Signs of heat stroke include heavy panting, drooling, weakness, or collapse. Lookout for snakes, we’ve seen 4 dogs that came in for snake bites in 2 days!

If your pet is bitten by a snake:
➡️ Stay calm
➡️ Keep them as still as possible

Texas snakes (like copperheads, rattlesnakes, and cottonmouths/ water moccasins) can be dangerous, but quick emergency care saves lives.
