Is That “Cheap” Maine C**n Really a Bargain?
🚩 “Why are Maine C***s so expensive?” 🚩
I see this question almost every single day.
Then I see someone post…
“I found a Maine C**n for $800!”
“This breeder only charges $1,500!”
“Why would anyone pay $3,500 or more?”
Here’s the reality…
A responsibly bred Maine C**n is expensive because it is expensive to produce one the right way.
Health testing.
Genetic testing.
Routine veterinary care.
Vaccinations.
Premium nutrition.
Registration.
Proper socialization.
Clean, spacious housing.
Hours of daily care.
None of that is cheap.
So when you find a “purebred Maine C**n” advertised for hundreds—or even well below the typical market price—you should stop and ask yourself why.
đźš© Extremely low prices (often under $2,500) are one of the biggest red flags in this breed.
More often than not, those listings end up being one of the following:
• A scam where no kitten exists.
• A backyard breeder skipping health and genetic testing.
• Poor breeding practices.
• Sick kittens requiring expensive veterinary care.
• Cats that aren’t actually purebred Maine C***s.
Can you occasionally find an exception? Of course.
But exceptions are exactly that—exceptions.
If a breeder is consistently selling kittens in the $1,800–$2,500 range, ask a lot of questions. Verify health testing, ask to see the parents, review veterinary records, and make sure you’re comparing apples to apples. The lower the price, the more carefully you should evaluate what may have been skipped to get there.
The truth is this…
You might “save” $1,000 or $1,500 today…
…only to spend $5,000–$10,000 (or more) on emergency vet bills, chronic illnesses, parasites, genetic conditions, or heartache over the life of that cat.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:
Buy the breeder before you buy the kitten.
A healthy, well-bred Maine C**n isn’t expensive because breeders are getting rich.
It’s expensive because ethical breeders invest heavily in producing kittens that have the best possible start in life.
Sometimes the cheapest kitten ends up being the most expensive one you’ll ever own.
Do your research. Ask questions. Verify everything. Your future companion is worth it.
