Many pet food brands highlight blueberries as a source of antioxidants, suggesting health benefits for pets. Blueberries are indeed rich in polyphenols, plant compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that support both human and animal health.

In this study, researchers analyzed 40 popular bags of pet food (18 cat and 22 dog) purchased from four pet stores, Pet Valu, Global Pets, Rens Pet Depot, and Pet Smart, listing blueberries as an ingredient to measure quercetin, free phenolics, and antioxidant-protected phenolics. Overall, cat kibble had lower average levels of quercetin and antioxidant-protected phenolics compared to dog kibble. Free phenolics were minimal to undetectable in all products.

The findings suggest that extruded kibble containing blueberries is unlikely to provide meaningful levels of polyphenols on its own, and therefore may not serve as a reliable antioxidant source for cats and dogs.

We lost a wonderful long time friend, Baxter. He started coming to Paw Perfect when we first opened in 2010 and enjoyed his spa days here for many years. He was the sweetest soul and a very intelligent boy. Baxter’s parents gave him a life any dog would dream of, and he is missed so much by his family and fur-siblings Diva, Travis, and Ritzy. We will always remember him fondly and I know he will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for those who loved him most.

Free to good home! Mama and daughter were left behind at an apt complex so one of our clients took them in, but allergies has made it impossible for them to stay. She would prefer them not go to the shelter so she’s asking for us to share them in hopes someone may want a sweet feline to add to their family. Both have claws and need to be spayed still. Thanks

We lost another long time friend this week, Biscuit. He came to see us for grooming for half his life. He lived a long happy 16 years with the most loving parents Bill and Nancy. Biscuit was the sweetest soul and we will miss him.

WHAT YOU DON'T SEE AT THE DOG GROOMERS.......
You dropped your dog off at the salon and picked them up few hours later - fluffy, fresh, and happy. But what you saw was just the tip of the iceberg.

You didn’t see your groomer arrive early to open up the salon, disinfect tools, lay out fresh towels, and check the day’s appointments. You didn’t see them look over your dog from nose to tail before even lifting a brush - checking the coat condition, skin, eyes, ears, nails, and weight.

You didn’t see the careful way they clipped around a wriggly paw, or how they paused to let your dog calm down during the bath. You didn’t notice the matting hidden beneath your dog’s topcoat, or the way the groomer worked slowly to avoid hurting the skin beneath it.

You weren’t there when they spotted a red patch of irritated skin, or a small lump you hadn’t noticed. You heard them gently mention it to you at collection - not to worry you, but because they genuinely care about your dog’s wellbeing.

And after you left, you didn’t see the clean-down , the floor swept, crates disinfected, tables cleaned, blades oiled, messages replied to, notes written up for your next visit, and laundry on AGAIN.

All of that… for a price that’s often lower than what you’d pay for your own haircut or even for your acrylic nails done. And your hairdresser?
They don’t have to bathe you, squeeze your butt, clip your nails, or hold you still while you try to bite the brush or their hands when they clip your nails.

The truth is ……. dog grooming is so much more than a haircut.

It’s about health, hygiene, comfort, and trust. It’s about knowing dog anatomy, coat types, skin conditions, behaviour management, handling skills, and safe sc******ng techniques. It’s a profession that takes training, practice, and patience.
Most groomers got into this work because they love dogs. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be paid fairly for the physical, emotional, and skilled work they do every single day.

If your dog leaves their groomer happy, healthy and looking good - it’s not by luck. It’s because you have got a good groomer.

They’re doing far more than just washing your dog.
