Crixus (2011-2022)
Naevia 2013-
Tiberius 2020-
Sheba 2022- My names Crixus & I am a red Doberman Pinscher!

How to pronounce my name: "Cricks Us". I was rescued February 2, 2013 when I was 15months. My sister Naevia (Nay-Via) is also a red Doberman Pinscher. Born on February 8, 2013. She was rescued on October 27, 2014. She was heart worm positive and underwent treatments. As of July 2015 she's heart worm free. She was bred on her first heat therefore is smaller than the breed.

We’ve personally worked with GDR over the years and continue to support our local GA Doberman rescues however we can. Twix’s case completely exhausted their emergency fund, and even a small donation helps them keep saying “yes” to dogs in crisis.

If you choose to donate, please know they’re incredibly grateful. Some payment methods don’t show donor names, so a quick follow-up message is always appreciated. ❤️‍🩹

Last time I shared an update, we were still trying to see whether Sheba was naturally picking up on Chase’s seizures. I’m not new to dogs sensing things like this Crixus used to alert to my low blood sugar but I wasn’t sure if Sheba would have that instinct with Chase.

Sure enough, she has. She’s been glued to him ever since that first moment. We brought in a K9 trainer that same week, a close friend of ours, and he’s now helping us train her for full service dog work for Chase.

Chase just had his 13th seizure, with the most recent one yesterday, and we were heading to CHOA to meet with Neurology right before it happened. His doctor didn’t even blink when we showed the video that had Sheba in it he said he’d had a Doberman before and knows how great they can be as service dogs. We’ll be starting a different medication since he’s already on a high dose of the current one and is still having two seizures a week.

She’s been doing an amazing job lately, especially with these recent episodes, and we’re so proud of how quickly she’s learning and stepping into this role. 💜🐾

Yesterday, Chase had his 7th seizure since the end of August. We’re still working to get them under control, but I’ve noticed Sheba cries during some of them. Today, I let her stay close to him she calms when she’s with him, and their bond seems stronger than I realized.

I’m going to keep watching to see if she might start picking up on more. His seizures are quiet and fast last week, just two minutes with my eyes off him was all it took.

I usually limit my decorating to the fall season, but last year I made an exception by purchasing four smaller Doberman-like skeletons for Chase's amusement, and he thoroughly enjoyed playing with them. As a result, when the new 5-ft skeleton became available, I felt inclined to buy it.

Paralleling my experience with owning multiple Dobermans, I appear to have difficulty settling for just one. Since one skeleton is designated for indoor use by Chase, I bought two more for our outdoor display. After Chase's recent seizure diagnosis, we have been dedicating more time to staying at home, maintaining a consistent routine, and attempting to identify the seizure triggers.

We became fosters when the South Carolina hoarding incident happened. We didn't receive one of those, but received Belle. ❤️‍🩹 It baffles me why so many filled out applications just to backout when not getting one of the Ohio rescues...

We try to stay up to date as best we can since GDR is wonderful in helping. We have helped a few times throughout the years, but mostly with Chase now and being special needs we have to be careful.

Please continue to share in helping any local doberman rescues around since they're all feeling overwhelmed these days.

Important Update from Georgia Doberman Rescue

We need to share something hard: Georgia Doberman Rescue will be pausing all intake until the end of the year while we reassess the future of our rescue.

The truth is simple and heavy:
We don’t have enough fosters.
We don’t have enough volunteers.
We don’t have enough donations.
And adoptions have slowed to a trickle.

When we took in the 4 Ohio Dobermans earlier this summer, we had a glimmer of hope. We had an avalanche of foster applications. But when people found out they wouldn’t be fostering one of the Ohio dogs and we asked them to foster other dogs just as deserving and desperate, every single one backed out. Every. Single. One. That was a gut punch.

Right now, there are just 3 of us carrying the weight of this rescue. Between the flood of dogs in need, rising vet costs (an adoption fee almost never covers what we spend to vet each dog), and the sheer exhaustion of trying to do it all, we simply cannot continue to rescue without burning out completely. We also have jobs, families and our own dogs on top of GDR.

So here’s what we’re focusing on through the end of the year:
1. Getting our current dogs adopted into safe, loving homes
2. Finding fosters who are truly committed—dogs can’t be saved without them
3. Growing our volunteer base, so the burden doesn’t fall on just a few

The truth is, the future of Georgia Doberman Rescue will depend entirely on the support we receive over the next few months. If you’ve ever thought about helping, now is the time.

If you’re in Georgia, South Carolina, or Alabama, we need you. You can complete a volunteer application here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScAbLp43kRiWDeUgwVLCz-ZQ2AvPiGwgXJcM_s4c0v_bsittw/viewform
Or a foster application here: http://www.georgiadobermanrescue.com/foster-application/

If you’re outside these states, please reach out to your local rescue. Everyone is struggling right now. We promise your help will matter there too.

This isn’t the post we wanted to write, but it’s the reality of rescue. We can’t do it alone. Please, if you can foster, volunteer, or donate, step forward. The Dobermans need you. We need you.

Tiberius wasn’t exactly a fan of the new vet we tried Saturday. Our usual vet couldn’t fit us in after he decided to chew on an interdigital cyst that popped up recently friday night. I’m hoping it was just the calming treats I gave him that made him less than thrilled about anyone getting too close.

Since our favorite treat shop was closed, we grabbed food instead and enjoyed it
by the lake.
