We are 4 days away from the end of an era. This veterinary practice has had 60+ years of history in service to the equine. Dr. Alan Raun started this practice which was then sold to
Dr Tony and Sally Prickett and then sold 31 years ago to Dr. Dixon Appel.

July 25 at 5:00 the clinic doors will close.
Dr Appel will be here that day if you care to stop by.

We are going to keep our online store available to you. We are also preparing to offer current inventory and miscellaneous items to you in the near future.

Thank you for your support of this legacy.

Dearest client and friend,
Since August 1991, it has been my privilege and honor to provide veterinary care to your equine athletes and companions. I have watched many of your children grow up and also their children grow up in the equine world. We have laughed and cried over the care of, or loss of, favorite horses.

Due to multiple surgeries, a heart attack, and other health concerns, the time has come where I am no longer able to perform my job at the level you deserve. I have decided I need to explore some of my other interests and develop new skills.

It is with sadness that I announce Pheasant Ridge Equine Clinic will be closing on July 25, 2022 at 5 PM. We will continue to take appointments up until that day.

However, starting June 25, all appointments will need to be paid at time of service by cash, check, or credit card. We would greatly appreciate that any outstanding balance to be paid by July 25, 2022.

Our online store will remain available to you for your equine health needs. Pheasantridge.myvetstoreonline.pharmacy

Thank you beyond words for your support and business you have given me during these 31 years. R. Dixon Appel, MS, DVM

PS- we are planning on selling several of the clinic items in the near future. We will post information as we have it.

As your excitement builds to the foaling of your mare, some preparation is needed in the last 30 days.
PREFOALING vaccinations and deworming of the mare will help with the building of antibodies, as these are passed to the new foal through the colostrum. After your mare has foaled, DON'T LEAVE YOUR MARE UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THE FOAL NURSE. SAVE THE PLACENTA FOR DR. APPEL TO INSPECT. Please call our office after the foal is born, for a new born exam. This needs to be approx. 12-18 hours after the birth.
Dr. Appel will examine the foal and pull a blood sample to see if the foal has received enough antibodies through the colostrum. If you have any questions, please contact our office. (515)981-0082 Emergency number (515) 729-8387

Information worth noting as you prepare for going to different horse shows and competitions. The best protection you can give your horse is to stay current on vaccinations and practice biosecurity measures away from home. While there is still not a vaccine for the neurologic mutation to the EHV, the above precautions can help to mitigate the risk.

The horse was euthanized; 25 more were exposed.
