Sweet Cornelius

A few short months ago, someone left a tote on our porch. Inside was a little white-and-gray cat we knew nothing about. No history. No name. No idea what kind of life he'd lived before he found his way to us.

What we did know was that he was special.

Cornelius had a way of making himself impossible not to love. He would follow me from room to room, gently nipping at me when he wanted attention, reminding me that snuggles were far more important than whatever I was doing at the moment. He wasn't shy about asking for love, and he gave it right back tenfold.

We had plans for him. We were going to make him our office cat, carrying on the legacy of Robor. It felt like he belonged here, as though he had always been part of our family.

Sometimes there are animals who touch your heart in a way that's hard to explain. The connection is immediate. Deep. Familiar. Cornelius was one of those souls.

We still don't know what happened. He was fine until he wasn't. It came quickly, and for that small mercy, we are grateful. There was no long suffering. Just a sudden goodbye.

Fly high, sweet boy. Thank you for choosing us, even if only for a little while.

You were loved. You will be missed. ❤️🐾🌈

Some people find peace in crowds.
I found mine in muddy paws, soft fur, quiet moments, and the animals the world forgot.
They never cared if I fit in. They never asked me to be anyone other than myself.
They just loved me.
And somehow, that changed everything. ❤️🐾

Some animals arrive carrying challenges they never asked for.
Flip was born with only 2½ legs. When her owner could no longer care for her, she found her way to us.
She never learned that she was supposed to feel sorry for herself. She just kept living, loving, and proving that a full life isn't measured by the number of legs you have.
The animals often teach us the lessons we're struggling to learn ourselves.

Before he was Jack, he was just a scared dog trying to survive.
For six months he lived alone in the woods. By the time he was finally caught, the damage to one leg was so severe it had to be amputated.
Today, he has something every animal deserves: safety, love, and a family of his own.
Never underestimate how much a second chance can change a life.

We built Stoney a little daytime pond today.
Nothing fancy. Just a stock tank, fresh water, a basking rock, and some sunshine.
The funny thing is, animals don't ask for much. They don't care about expensive things. They care about safety, comfort, and the freedom to simply be what they are.
Maybe there's a lesson in that for us, too.
Today, Stoney reminded me that happiness can be surprisingly simple. 🐢☀️💚

Intake is still closed.

We continue to receive messages asking if we are taking in cats and kittens. At this time, the answer is still no.

Our intake will remain closed until every cat and kitten currently in our care receives the veterinary attention they need. We have cats waiting for dental work, spay and neuter surgeries, medical treatment, and other necessary care. These animals are our responsibility, and we cannot in good conscience take on more while struggling to meet the needs of those already depending on us.

We understand the overwhelming need. Every message represents a life that matters, and turning animals away is one of the hardest parts of rescue. But rescue is not simply collecting animals. Rescue is making sure they receive proper care, medical treatment, food, shelter, and a chance at a healthy future.

The reality is that we need help, too.

It makes no sense to continue taking in more cats if vetting and caring for the ones we already have is posing a challenge. If you would like to help us reopen intake sooner, please consider donating, sponsoring a cat's veterinary care, sharing our posts, or helping us find adopters for the animals currently in our care.

The more we can accomplish for the cats we already have, the sooner we can help the next ones waiting for rescue.

Thank you for understanding and for caring about these wonderful little lives.

Some arrive terrified.
Some arrive broken.
Some arrive already giving up on life.

And little by little…
through routine, patience, calm energy, soft voices, food bowls, blankets, sunlight, and trust…
they begin to remember they are safe.

That is the part of rescue people rarely see.

Not just survival.

Regulation. Healing. Peace.
The nervous system of an animal changes when love becomes consistent. 🌿

One thing rescue teaches you really fast…

the ones the world overlooks often become the ones who change your whole life. 🖤

These three grew up surrounded by love, safety, soft beds, muddy adventures, and people who would do anything for them.

They lost the humans they loved.

Some were confused. Some shut down. Some waited by doors that were never going to open again.

So we became the next chapter of their story. 💙

Now this loud, chaotic, beautiful little family is made up of souls who all found each other after loss. 🐾🦜🌿

Penny has absolutely no concept of personal space… and honestly, I hope she never learns.

One thing rescue animals teach you is this:

love does not always arrive gracefully. Sometimes it climbs on your shoulder, steps on your hair, steals your chair, and demands affection immediately.

And somehow… those end up being the best moments.
